“It’s a marathon, not a sprint” - my approach to classic
For The Horde
My goal is to kill Kel’Thuzad in Naxxaramas, which is why my motto is “It’s a marathon, not a sprint”. This goal will take a very long time to achieve but it starts from the beginning in gathering in committed people for the long haul … the marathon.
You can pretty much faceroll all of MC/BWL and half of AQ40 as long as you have 40 people upright and standing (with only 1-2 gear checks on the way) … hell you could probably do it with 30 (my classic guilds first ever Nefarian kill was with 35 people).
At this stage I am looking for to gather interest from people and add them to the Discord channel to begin discussions. I have it set up with class/raid/levelling guides and other resources.
I am looking to gather a group of committed and like minded people to discuss and plan for launch.
I have found and joined a guild that suits my playstyle, goals and timeframes so happy to share that privately - however I still have the discord channel setup with loads of resources to network.
The problem I have with this mentality is that when its face roll is when attendance slips (from people that have everything they want), people afk trash, alts starting being introduced… basically discipline starts to wane and what should be a ~60-90 minute MC clear turns into 3 hours of sluggish raiding because of wipes, run backs, waiting on summons, people forgot to get aqual quintessence etc.
That said if you have a harda^* RaidLead who wont stand for slacking off but overall still have a friendly raid vibe is exactly what I am looking for.
The thing is, it’s a long game classic and you need to focus long term. Especially when BWL comes out, many items there (trinkets) are BiS for the rest of the expansion for some classes. With my ‘downtime’ due to the early raids being easy I will be planning for AQ40 and Naxx by collecting consumables and doing other fun things like PvP etc.
Pretty much, but Gehennas, Garr and Geddon in BWL gear is stupid fast. Do it straight after Nef dies while most still have flasks/world buffs and it’s quick.
