So the rumor mills are spooling up and are gaining momentum towards the potential announcement of Classic+ come Blizzcon in September and I was wondering what everyone here wants to see out of a Classic+ release with regards to new zones, new subzones, redesigned older zones, etc. and what sort of stories and lore drops that you think would come from these areas (or what you wish to see).
Take inspiration from Turtle, set it in a different timeline from Retail.
What if post Classic was different? (Maybe TBC does not happen or happens differently, eventually no Cataclysm).
Add new playable races like High Elves and Ogres. Maybe goblins too (but have them start out neutral, and like the Pandaren starting zone, they can choose what side to join).
Personally I would like a continued âfound photographâ approach like SoD was. Maybe continue with the altered timeline that had the Scarlet Enclave plot, as the true ending (aka Jabra Hexx cameo) of that implies that time travel was involved somehow.
more splitting the playerbase yay
Ogres

Blood elves
not high elves
High Elves (not identifying as blood elves) work better in a Classic+ because you donât need any TBC plotline for them to be available. They are small in numbers and spread out across human controlled lands. Their are some within Alliance ranks in regular Classic, though they are using the old pre-TBC model.
I think for now the first new Classic+ races should be Ogres and High Elves because they fit the Classic theme more then Blood elves. Another Horde race that fits Classic are the Dark Rangers of the Forsaken.
I do think Blood Elves could work for the Horde in a later update, but not a repeat of TBC, a plotline that is different, if Classic+ is an alternate timeline. For Alliance instead of regular Draenei, I would go for Broken instead. Perhaps one of the differences in this timeline is a group of Broken were able to escape to Azeroth prior to the events of Classic.
Yeah this is how I feel about it. I personally hate all these game modes.
I suppose there is an argument that if they exist, and people play them, then that means they are worth while. And these game modes largely would use old assets, so they probably donât take away too much Dev time that should be going towards Retail.
And some people make the argument that if they didnât have the various Classic modes, that they wouldnât be subscribed at all, because they want nothing to do with Retail.
So far I have just avoided the whole Classic thing. Whether it divides the player base⌠or gives people a reason to subscribe who donât enjoy retail⌠or wastes Dev time that should be spent on Retail⌠or all of the aboveâŚ
Nah, high elves playable in classic for the Alliance.
Long as my goat babies be playable. Iâm okies with anything else ![]()
horde was originally going to get blood elves in bc but then we got high elves
I think Classic+ has been so absurdly overhyped that itâs going to cause a profound crash-out in the people most excited for it. Expectations have grown far, far beyond whatâs actually reasonable. The idea that Blizzard is going to fork the game and have two full dev teams putting out new expansions in two timelines isnât just optimistic, itâs genuinely stupid.
To answer the actual question, my only hope is that whatever gets made for Classic+ is also folded into the real game, so at least it wonât have been a wholly wasted effort.
I think what Classic+ has in terms of potential is where itâs value lies.
Thrall. Volâjin. Cairne. Sylvanas. All still alive, still members of the Horde, unspoiled by the petty bickering of two devs over whoâs Waifu/Husbando is superior. Then you have other characters, such as Garrosh and Varian. Better yet, Kaelâthas, Vashj, and Illidan, not reduced to mere raid fodder. Imagine for a moment the Blood Elves with Kaelâthas as their racial leader. That alone makes Classic+ enticing in terms of story. Thatâs not to say Lorâthemar is a bad character, but the Blood Elves werenât the same without Kaelâthas. In a lot of ways, I canât help but look at Lorâthemar as the poster-character for a lot that went wrong with Blood Elves, their narrative-devolution in red-coded High Elves.
A major part of Vanilla WoWâs charm was how little of an over-arching story there was. We didnât have main characters back in the day. Our major lore figures were beloved heroes from WC3 turned into quest-givers. I think having moments where these characters get to shine, protecting their homelands, is the best way to utilize them. Will Blizzard do that? I donât know. The Classic and Retail teams are two separate groups, each with their own devs for quests, systems, etc⌠Iâm hoping story/narrative as well.
Something that I think would be pretty awesome is to expand on the races in unique ways. For example, take the Forsaken. Itâd be awesome if you could play a Dwarf, an Orc, whatever, and undertake a long quest to become a Forsaken. Get undead customization options, racials changed to the Forsaken racials.
At the same time, imagine if people could become Worgen by a similar questline. Factions like the Cult of the Wolf/Cult of the Forgotten Shadow could be built upon and act as gateways into deeper immersive experiences for players. Maybe once you complete the Worgen questline, when you go Worgen, you go full PvP mode. Horde, Alliance, Neutral, etc⌠it all turns red.
Itâd also be nice to see some races added to the game in a neutral capacity. Draenei and Goblins come to mind. Draenei always felt like they shouldâve been neutral. Their ideals and beliefs just scream that, and we know Thrall never wanted conflict with them when they arrived on Azeroth. As for the Goblins, no need to explain why they would work out as a neutral race.
4 factions
Horde, alliance, forsaken, night elf
Players can start as part of a faction or as a mercenary that has positives and negatives that come with it.
And Ogres
And Naga!!
Keep it unchanged save for the addition of transmogs, and Iâd like a pathfinder esque solution to mount training.
The worst part of Classic is the $$$ you gotta drop to get a ride. Iâm not hustling a fake stock market all day to keep up with my pony payments. Thatâs fine if youâre 12 or unemployed but Iâve enough money worries today I really, really donât want the âHow am I going to afford thisâ stress in my make believe world of pretend.
Have it be a gameplay related unlock. Complete X number of storylines, fully explore X number of regions, prove Iâve hoofed it enough that Iâve earned the privilege for actual hooves now.
If blood elves are added, I would not have them be paladins. They walk a different path than TBC.
Makes the Horde and Alliance more unique when each faction has a unique class.
a lot of classic+ wishlist stuff just feels like retail wishlist
people put high elves and ogres on the wishlist. like is this classic+ or just a vision for retail?
Not liking the direction of retail is fair. But they are messing up current plotlines and people expect a reboot to be good somehow.
Despite myself, I kind of hope Classic+ commits blood elves to the fel elf villain path, drops draenei, does high elves, and gives the Horde ogres or whatever. It would be fascinating to peer into that dirt generic timeline. Something tells me an AU dominated by Alliance high elves would be far more insufferable than anything theyâve contrived for retail.
Same.
Though one hope that I have is that the Firetree tribe actually has a presence in game.
It always felt weird to me how Blizzard gives us a rundown of the Forest troll tribes, shows us that two tribes are apart of the Dark Horde, and then only had the Smolderthorn in game until the Firetree Speakers in Battle for Azeroth.
Ditto +: Be like Twow and add in regions WoW itself kinda never got around to. Turtle adding Balor with a Stormreaver focused storyline was awesome. I saw screenshots from it, with Drakâthul on the coast in a hut laid over an ossified warcraft 2 turtle submarine and I thought it was so cool. Moonwhisper coast being built off the old wc3 missions with the nelf town of Nendis was awesome.
And what they made up themselves? Northwind, from what had been shared with me, actually was really interesting! It focused on inter human kingdom politics in that era where most of them were near broken or just remnants, Kul Tiras was isolating, Theramore was the cool up and coming refugee nation in a new land, etc.
Use the areas of your world you forgot, or lean in on the cool concepts that existed in this old era of lore that you never went anywhere with or destroyed too soon.
