Classic players: YOU were right, I was wrong!

THIS! This is why we play mmo’s. All the other stuff is pointless garbage

Nailed it pretty much. I play on an RP server now so there’s still a fairly big community (if you RP), but back when I was on Mannoroth in Wrath, there was no sharding nor raid finder, and it was still pretty great community wise. A lot of the tags and characters felt familiar, whereas now it’s extremely rare to be in a pug raid on your own realm/community only, and it kills it.

Raid finder is a great way to see endgame content, but there is near nil replay value if you’re just blowing up things with random strangers. I think that sense of easing entry into serious content needs to be obliterated, and I feel sorry for anyone who has their wow experience based on something like that.

Now if Blizz could get it…maybe they could fix live.

Can’t agree more on this. Real life is slow because of all kinds of inconvenience. Real life is hard because reputation needs repeated effort and time to tell. This game is a fantasy I want in an alternative world. If one can’t see the fun in “slow”, we may not share the same value to see fun in real life either.

Classic is for leveling.

Retail is for end game.

They are very different games.

Fun for different reasons.

Have fun running around barrens for hours trying to find raptor heads just to have some rouge pop out of nowhere and steal your tag

As a matter of fact I have had fun running around the barrens getting raptor heads.
And I’m not even a rouge :)

I’m enjoying Classic as well but this is the new toy glow stage of the game. Easy leveling for lowbies, lots of common interest, lots of camaraderie.

Where the inconveniences part becomes more of a factor is levels 40-60. That’s when leveling becomes more tedious and grindy. You’ll also need to farm gold for your mount if the gold farmers/sellers aren’t back in business by then.

Then there’s preparing for end game, the most tedious and grindy part of all unless you’re at the top of the raiding food chain (you can have peons farm needed mats for you in exchange for a raid spot!). That’s when the concurrent numbers should really plummet.

You wanna be slow and inconvenienced just like in real life…? (You think you do, but you don’t :smirk:)

The game will still be chalk full of immersive gameplay in a month. In case you were wondering if that would change. ( it doesn’t until like… wrath? late BC?)

That’s not my point. Vanilla, or this classic, is decent balance.

Dude, whatever. I have been posting on the GD forums for many years and I dislike this loud minority of mean-spirited prick players that like to stir up trouble between folks who like retail/classic. It’s stupid and you are just shamefully ignorant if you think that toxicity went in one direction. There has been months of toxic nonsense coming from both sides of the argument on the issue and the retail-only crowd has been–in my opinion–the nastiest.

So, again, I say ‘whatever’ to you on that. I’m sick of seeing posts like this.

@OP You’re a classy dude and I liked your post. How on earth did you remember what you said a year ago though?? Respect.

Props for admitting that you were wrong, that takes guts. Cheers!

Agreed! The role playing part took a back seat. That’s why I became a fan of Elder Scrolls. WoW introduced me into the world of role play and Elder Scrolls made me fall in love with it even more. You become part of that world. You get a better sense of your class and each class was it’s own unique experience. Each class had their thing that made them shine and each one has their own set backs.

It wasn’t just doing raids. It was the journey and the progress with your friends and guild mates. Dungeons and raids should be about progress and team building.

Today kids rush through everything. But, they don’t really learn their class along the way. There needs to be enough difficulty for players to stop and think about what they are doing. Leveling is when tanks need to practice their taunt and pulling techniques. The tank needs to learn to lead and keep the pace of the group. If the tank goes to fast, he won’t have a healer and the dps to help him out. Good pacing and communication is key. Each dungeon should have it’s own unique challenges. You have to work through them and plan your next moves, just like you would a raid. It should be a rewarding experience as you level, not just for the end game.

It wouldn’t hurt for retail players to jump over to Classic, just to learn their class. That might help us all be better players in the retail version.

not a lot of people can eat their words up and apologize. I respect that just from reading the first line.

LONG LIVE THE GNOME KING!

Remember the “wall of no”? Yeeeah, good times.

Do I remember a time where the community was adamant that a Classic Server option would be impossible with verifiable evidence? Yes.

Was I just as doubtful? Of course.

Was I proven wrong? J. Allen Brack announced it at BlizzCon and I immediately retracted everything I ever said about Classic WoW. So yes, I was.

Am I enjoying Classic? 100%.

Cool, so saying that only one side was toxic and deserved what it got is just hypocritical.

I’m not saying at all that either side is justified, though, just that there were so many who absolutely brought the bashing on themselves.

I think a lot of why it’s so fun is because everything you do requires more thought. You need to think about how you’re pulling mobs so you don’t get attacked by all 4 and then die horribly. You need to put thought into what skills you should learn, because, let’s be honest, you just can’t afford all of them! You need to choose your talents more carefully because re-training them is not easy or cheap. You need to be cognizant of what you’re spending your hard-earned coin on, because if you buy things left and right, you won’t be able to afford a mount, ever.

It’s because everything little thing requires some amount of thought now, it makes the whole experience more meaningful. You become one with your character through all the decisions you contemplate on and that, in turn, creates much more immersion.

I’m having a blast so far. I love the fact that I have to run everywhere, because the map feels soooo much bigger. I love that everyone looks like a wayward traveler in mismatched gear. We all look out for each other, whether it be buffing, handing out potions, helping with mobs etc etc.

I’m playing Classic for the journey. I don’t care when I reach max level, because every little step towards that end makes up the story/life of my character.
