The reasons are different for everyone, it has nothing to do with being right or wrong!
Sitting around waiting for mobs to spawn for an hour to finish your quest takes thought and effort? IDK about that⦠itās more about the community experience. The gameplay sucks imo.
Iām level 22, through the worst part of the congestion where zones are the most crowded, and it hasnāt taken me more than 10 minutes to finish a quest for mob kills/drops, and thatās with playing duo with a friend the whole time needing double the drops. Get your hour long quest BS out of here, itās not like that at all.
Also Iām on Faerlina, arguably the most popular and crowded server.
Yeah⦠I wasnāt in that group. I made a post about how I ādid my timeā. But hot damn, I got swept up in the hype (and all my friends were playing it) so I logged in and made a character, and now Iām hooked again.
Like, i think I have 10 hours /played, Iām level 12, Iām in Westfall (first time leveling a human, so might as well be new content for me). I canāt stop playing. Itās amazing. It feels different. Thereās spirit. I gathered some dog tags for two guys killed by murlocs, and I felt something.
Could be nostalgia. Could be Iām secretly bored that Iām not gaining levels per hour and this feeling will ebb, but for me, I canāt wait to get on tonight and try to hit 15. Making friends and having fun. Itās awesome.
I definitely didnāt see it coming, and yet here I am. I thought I didnāt, but I SO did.
I just donāt know what takes thought and effort with the prehistoric rotations where you pull a mob and mostly autoattack it to death. One at a time too, lest you get killed.
All i know is. Classic makes me feel like im playing an MMO
Forced to join groups. Socialize. The fantasy and immersion of everything. I love it. Something about vanille music, maps and quest just cant be beat. Its why i feel in love with this game!
āClassic Everquestā is still going, just saying.
This about sums up the whole thing. Iāll never forget when Cata launched and I started to feel like I was playing a game. Iād never felt that before. Maybe it was the destruction of the old world. Maybe it was the incredible amount of changes to everything. Maybe it was the disintegration of all the rpg elements. I do know when CRZ hit I was done.
Because with many classes you canāt pull more than 1-2 mobs without dying? Youāre playing a rogue- if you pull 2 mobs, youāre likely needing to gouge > bandage after the first one is dead, or you die. You have to actually make decisions and think about what youāre doing, or you die.
How do you not see how that is different from something like retail, where you can literally play the game blindfolded spamming buttons, pulling 15 mobs at once and never being in any danger?
Also, youāre just spouting random things to try and make a point. No class is leveling by mostly auto attacking.
I think itād be much better with modern rotations and pace, but with the difficulty (literally just hard hitting things) that encourages group play.
Your millage may vary. It took my group 3 hours to complete shadow pendants yesterday. We all stayed in group until everyone had theirs, though. That may be the difference.
Iām not going to bad mouth retail here. I personally donāt like the modern game anymore, but some people LOVE it, and thatās ok. Itās great if you want to login, do some stuff for 30 minutes, and go on with your life.
I personally miss being a hunter/engineer. Crafting my own ammo, scopes, and toys. I miss the pet system that was deep and interactive. Thereās so much to like about Classic. Is it long and tedious? Yes. Is it casual friendly? Yeah⦠less so than retail though. Itās just what I personally like better.
We all have our game. Some people like both based on their own merits.
Iām just glad youāre having fun!
I think thatās the most important thing about Classic, is that is people feel compelled to make groups; and even if things take forever, itās still fun to hang out. Iād get bored to tears if I was solo leveling.
I love that crafting can be useful to your toon.
Now youāre getting it, just donāt get caught without vanishing powder. That is the lmao moment you wont forget and will get drilled into your skull not to forget. There is something about it and I miss having poisons with every spec. I hated they got taken away with some specs in retail.
Well, thatās big of you. Glad youāre liking Classic.
Yes to all of this. I was playing last night and someone was having trouble with something that I had actually just re-learned myself because over the passage of time I had simply forgotten. Someone asked in chat and after I explained it to them the conversation in zone general chat drifted into a bunch of people saying that they never had a chance to experience this content the first time around because when it originally launched they were 3-10 years old. Kind of made me feel like a proud mama bear for a bit to see younger people trying it and not immediately hating it and happy that I was able to help because I know that Classic has a lot of things that are pretty important but not necessarily that obvious if nobody is telling you.
That was when I recognized that I had made an extremely incorrect assumption about the other players around me. I just assumed that everyone else was there for the nostalgia like I was. Honestly I only resubbed my account a few hours after Classic opened because my husband was playing and laughing about how he had to stop and drink after every fight and didnāt always have enough money to train when he dinged. I havenāt been subbed to the game in over 5 years prior to that and I am having such a good time. I canāt wait for my kids to get to bed every night so that I can log in and play.
I relate so much to what you just said. It turns out that the hype transcends nostalgia. Yes, some people are nostalgic, but the nostalgia exists because the game really was that good back then.
This right here. One of the biggest differences I noticed was that mobs could and often actually kill me if I make a mistake. On retail, i just gather a few up aoe them down and barely get a scratch. On classic, thats an easy death. I have to carefully pull, I have to CC, I have to pay attention and IMMERSE myself into the experience. Thats one of the biggest differences I have noticed so far, plus all the other things OP mentioned.
It amazes me that people make clicking 2-3 extra buttons sound like an immersive experience.
I guess I was already jaded when Vanilla came out because I had been playing MUDs for years.
