Classic is shining light on how bad Live itemization is

I love that gear quality level is actually a thing in Classic. There is something extremely satisfying about upgrading your Common (white) item to an Uncommon (green) item and then eventually to an actually rare Rare (blue) item. It’s a lot more satisfying than getting a 430 piece with a slot and then having to run multiple sims just to see if it’s an upgrade.

I love that Epic (purple) items in Classic are actually epic. You see someone with a purp and you KNOW that dude is a bad mama jama.

What is even the point of having different color gear in Live any more since everything is just based on ilvl? I can literally afk in a BG or LFR and get an EPIC quality piece of gear from it. Why?

Why, Blizz?

You’re right. Blizz should just retire the color scheme entirely since some people are still hung up on the color of their pixels.

Because you’re a terrible person.

Might as well. The color system has turned into a vestigial organ from the olden days.

Nitpick: That is quality, not itemization. Seeing you say itemization was good in Classic almost made me choke.

What? You don’t like that sweet, sweet +Spirit plate gear for Warriors?

yeah i was like lol what? Did you see what Holy Paladin BiS was?

Itemization has to do with stats, not the color of the text on the item or how the item is gained.

And itemization in classic is terrible.

Times have changed tho. Gear is accessible for everyone. The ability to clear content is not. Getting gear is easier but content is way more challenging. In Classic getting gear is tough and content is lolroflstomp.

I don’t give a rip what ilvl joe-shmo is. If he is 3/8N and has a radierio of 600 hes bad IMO. The fact that he has 10x titan forges is irrelevant if he can’t perform.

It still floors me that people are so worried about ilvl and welfare gear. Who freaking cares. I’d rather someone see 8/8M and a 3k IO and go “holy crap” vs lookin at my gear and saying that.

People used to do this in the AV cave to earn epics too. It’s where the term “welfare gear” comes from.

Purple being common was because of vanilla, in vanilla epics were epics, so players lusted for that purple text, hell some players still lust for orange text like its somehow not just another item.

Blizz started handing out purple texted items because for awhile players just loved seeing that purple text, now purple is standard at level cap so you dont even notice the color anymore, epic is just the new uncommon.

Certain aspects of it were bad, like what you mentioned and Pally gear dropping for Horde/Sham for Alliance, etc.

I’m mostly referring to the acquisition and upgrade aspect of it.

You mean like the strength and agility on cloth gear? Yep that’s some dang fine itemization right there.

That was just an example. I haven’t even set foot in an LFR since like the beginning of Legion.

The term was actually made up as a joke by one of the devs during TBC. Then the players took it and promptly ran it into the ground.

My hunter’s first epic in Vanilla was Lei of Lilies. It dropped off a random bear in the Western Plaguelands.

It buried the needle on the dissapointment-o-meter.

And yet you remember the experience of getting it 15 years later. :slightly_smiling_face:

Not fondly.

Meanwhile, do you remember how and where you got your first 400 piece?

I remember the day I finally got my Arcanite Reaper made on my Warrior back in Vanilla. I finally got all the mats for it and the money to pay the BS that had its plans. That wasn’t even an Epic weapon.

Green should be quest rewards, blue dungeon and purple, raid.
