No way the data is accurate. Developer flat out states the cathedral wouldn’t be done by a level 30
And your source on that is…?
The video in the OP where he states it.
You obviously didn’t pay attention to the stated intent of the classic team.
What do you think their stated intent is?
I agree they should have not went with 1.12… It sucks. The game was hard and would be hard again even with ppl having played for all the time they have if they went with the earlier versions of everything. Sad but true and ppl that say otherwise were not present at the time. You were though Darem. In fact you bought the collectors edition. I think Blizzard should be listening to ppl like you with this recreation. Unfortunate that they do not.
Slow down friend, if anyone’s rude it’s not me
It seems that you have not read the initual post thoroughly.
Never have the community (Nostalrius which initiated this movement) asked for an exact replica of the 1.12 patch. We asked for Vanilla.
Yes, revert nerfs made on the way to 1.12 that fit into patch 1.12 - What exactly? I leave that to the Classic Dev. team to decide (which nerfs to reverse).
I think you should perhaps read through the entire thread and then reflect, your “statements” have already been covered several times over.
Couldnt have said it better myself!
Huh. Lots of nerfs to respawn timers in Strat and Scholo. That would make it tougher in those scenarios where you kill a pat, then have to drag the next 5 trash pulls back into the previous room.
You keep making these abstract, borderline nihilist arguments. “You cant know, i cant know, so why even try…man?”
The experience they should try to create is the one that happened. Not your perspective, not mine. The progression of patches, or some abbreviated approximation thereof. It doesnt need to mirror it perfectly because 97.6% of players arent going to know the nuanced differences between patches.
And that is what they are doing.
With content selection, yes. With the tuning of the overall content, no.
If my ‘research’ is anything to go by, and Classic is successful, there will be wipes in dungeons, I can tell you that much.
Love the idea, i have tried advocating the same idea, just not thought out and typed like this. Cheers
Thats because they have stated they do not have all of that data and would need to guess, which would make it no different than a private server at that point.
People asked for it to be accurate so that is what they are trying to do. If you are ok with made up numbers and other things they probably could do that, but Im going to guess you would be in the minority.
Important to note they explicitly stated:
In restoring World of Warcraft Classic, our guiding principle has been to provide an authentic experience. Things might run a bit smoother and the hardware is better, but the game should still look and feel like you’re playing World of Warcraft from 2006.
They aren’t aiming for a 2004 experience or a 2005 experience. They are aiming for a 2006 experience. Personally I would love a 1:1 1.1->1.12 recreation but thats not the goal.
No, they’re aiming to make profit.
However, they decided on 1.12 as the most polished version. There’s also speculation on them not having data on previous versions. Maybe there’s other reasons. Either way, it’s not clear whether they were thoughtful of the implications on difficulty.
It’s not speculation. They outright said they don’t have that data at BlizzCon thanks to how patches were handled during Vanilla.
Yeah how convenient (considering my initially stated argument for Blizzard going 1.12)
Still, the purpose of this thread is not to discuss the “how” but the “what”.
I have faith in the Classic Dev. team to reslove the “how”.
Great thread. Most players did not, in fact, blaze through content. But we can’t reasonably time-gate the already solved game.
Most players did not have BiS lists (none of them would even know what you meant by the term), guides, maps, or even add-ons. Some of what you’re asking for is reasonable to a degree, but not with players that have been “no-life’ing” the game for the past 15 years on various private servers. These people will race to 60, dominate the economy, and steamroll all of the content the moment it drops.
What is the answer to this? To me, the only hope is that classic WoW’s success serves as a indication to the investors as well as the content developers that players are hungry for a return to better (and less synthetic) game design and world building.
