Ah, thank you for clarifying that. I have no interest in going to TBC (and I have also not been playing my Classic accounts because of personal objections) So, If I was in error thanks for pointing that out.
Much of the info I’ve gotten has come from posters here so I might have assumed more than I thought.
Check out Turtle Wow I think they made changes that deviate from everywhere else. (maybe get some ideas) My one friend is all about it. (not me though bc it’s PvE)
I like your creativity. Not opposed to players getting a Classic + just not at the expense of me getting a #nochanges / Forever server <3
I think some gameplay issues could be addressed while staying true to Vanilla:
Remove spell batching (already done, hope it stays)
Remove pick pocketing mobs in instances (who does this besides bots)
Fix AoE boosting by requiring the lowbies to tag mobs to get xp and have mobs evade/reset in dungeons like they do outside.
Remove honor decay
Increase rep gains for AB and WSG.
Timer for WSG
No world buffs in raid instances
Instance stones can summon
Slightly closer GYs to some dungeons like RFK/RFD (I think having to run back is a good incentive not to wipe). Some are super close (SM) and others super far away, just make it consistent.
Retail style group finder to find other players/groups (NOT Dungeon Finder auto-grouper)
I’d enjoy a lot of the retail QoL additions in a Classic+ setting, but these would be on my short list:
Unrestricted Transmog. (Any green+ item)
Mount, Pet and toy tabs.
Dual Spec.
What I’m about to say will trigger a lot of purists, but here goes: I’d be interested in Classic Seasons. Taking inspiration from D3 here. After LK is released and goes through it’s natural 2 year lifecycle, I’d be interested in having a rotating schedule every 4 months of Classic/TBC/LK with expedited XP gain and loot drops.
Due to the shortened nature of a Season, a 5 Person LFD tool would probably be ideal. Ten through forty person dungeons and raids would use traditional grouping.
A long term progression system to incentivize Season Participation would be needed to give Seasons a purpose.
So yes. I’m proposing an entirely new game mode for WoW. Something that’s not quite retail, but not quite Classic. Something (hopefully) appealing to both.
I could also see this being used to target less popular expansions. Not many would want to go through 2 years of Warlords or Cataclysm, but a shortened Season where the unfashionable expansions are balanced and tweaked around such an experience might work.
Rather than a free for all on features I’d love to see sideways progression - new bosses in the old world with the old systems.
The Retail Bliz team don’t do much better than the Vanilla devs, but they do raids and encounters well - have Classic world and game design with new boss encounters!
gimme a few minutes to respond. will take a bit to type it up. (handicap hands)
classic isnt just of interest to classic fans, retail players appreciate it also, for various reasons, some more than others. as a result, some retail qols would go a long way in improving any classic+ experience, examples being guild banks, limited transmogs, barbershop and dual spec.
older versions of the game, pre-release, were slated to feature a dungeon under karazhan, the emerald dream as a questing zone, and the dragon isles as a raid+questing area. azshara zone had an outdoors battleground. the eversong woods had a world tree of sorts in what is now the ghostlands. high elves lived in a blue trimmed silvermoon, were allied with the alliance and were druids, rangers called farstriders, priests, battlemages, and from the looks of it, sorcerer mages like kael’thas.
that got me thinking about the time before arthas’ rampage as lich king. lots of potential there. story’s already written and most of the world map is already done. the models and animations are done. the music is mostly done, as are sound fx, special fx, classes and spell schools.
