I’m not really sure what the context is here, but if transfers from Anniversary to Era are a thing, there’s a work around for a name change. Make a character of your same name on your destination server. When you transfer, you’ll be told your name is taken and asked to change it to something else.
I think some folks have had success with having people report your name, but that could be a double edged sword. Works better on RP servers I think.
I think someone on a different account has to have your name. If it’s the same account funny things can happen.
You just have to really make sure that you pick the name you want forever. I’ve deleted toons because of bad names. Luckily I’ve played long enough to where I’ve had most of my toon names figured out for years. And luckily, they’re unique enough that I can get them every time.
Blizzard really needs to fix the name situation.
