What’s a disc priest gonna do in a bg? He gonna run the flag? Lol. He can heal people but he isn’t doing anything without that support
Is a Druid gonna kill a r14 warrior? Probably not
Rogues have very distinct roles depending on what bg they play that other classes can’t do as well as them (ninjaing nodes and spinning flags/stopping EFC with gouge blind kidney sap etc) ninja towers etc) they’re probably the one class that relies on support the least due to the nature of their job
When people say stock vanilla BGs are balanced, they mean in a team or raid sense. It isn’t balanced around 1v1 because this is an RPG (classes have roles)
You can do better without support by using the right items or consumes or engi, but in general the game is very balanced when you pit 5 or 10 or 15 against each other when all roles are present
What??? Between roots and healing and bear form how the hell is a druid losing to a warrior 1v1?

In 20 years I have never heard anyone say that stock vanilla BGs are balanced. If anything I have heard over and over and over again how unbalanced it is. Honestly maybe TBC I could see them being as close to balanced as ever but Vanilla? never heard it.
But back to the original question which is what class is bad in BGs? The answer is warrior for exactly all those things even you just said. Vanilla PVP is not balanced 1v1, there are some classes that have a much, much stronger toolkit for PVP than others. Warriors got the short end of the stick, that’s all.
It isn’t a question of “what is the worst class in a BG if the teams are balanced and all classes work together effectively” it’s just a simple “what class is bad in BGs”. warrior.
I love playing warrior in Vanilla, smashing faces in BGs is awesome but every single warrior knows how much it sucks to be in a BG and not have a healer or someone to dispel. Luckily there are a ton of things you can do to mitigate that but then we’re getting to specifics and comparing “warrior with engineering” vs “warrior without” or warrior with world buffs and full r14 gear vs X class, or whatever. I can think of hundreds of scenarios where a warrior does great but again that’s not the question.
Maybe i’m just being pedantic but Vanilla wow was absolutely never known for PVP balance and warriors were always the butt of the joke for requiring 2 pocket healers to make them any good in a BG.
Not really. At least not anything that contributes specific value to the bg. Being able to 1v1 something hardly means anything when it comes to winning a bg besides maybe stealing a node or killing and fc and a priest or warrior aren’t killing him by themsevles
A Druid in a bg is literally contributing more inside a BG by just rooting the warrior and heading to the objective than sitting there killing a warrior.
Killing random players on a road or in mid field means nothing most of the time unless they are running the flag or something. A Druid can 1v1 a node in AB but this isn’t something that always happens. Most of the time you’re better off rocket helming a guy capping the node and spinning it forever until more show up cause they have more coming too
I mean I don’t know, I’ve only played 10 thousand BGs and played in supported tournaments. Stock BGs feels miles better than something like SOD BGs.
“Bad in BGs” assumes the player doesn’t have a team or support which he does. Warriors are required for organized BGs as they make the best anchors for your team
Then it’s a stupid question in general because BGs aren’t solo 1v1s. Everyone goes into the bg with a team wether the team sucks or not
The game is balanced when all roles are present and people are actually doing their job (their role). It doesn’t even need to be prefect comp or anything. The team just needs to work with the players it has and assume the roles best per individual player
Random engagements like 1v1s, 2v3s, etc are not balanced nor do they need to be. That’s what retail is for. In order to achieve harmonious 1v1 balance you need to homogenize the classes and this isn’t necessary
I literally got Justicar in Vanilla wow before titles were even a thing. I can at least backup my claim of how many BGs I played in Vanilla and I have never heard a single person utter the phrase “Vanilla battlegrounds are balanced” until you said it today.
I did too buddy. I played vanilla launch, and continued up until MOP where I had quit and went to pservers exclusively. Did not play cata tho. Got that arena tournament realm title too, vanquished I believe is what they called it. Was so long ago, I no longer have that account though
I mean this is a conversation you’ve never had Witu anyone. I can easily bet you’ve never had a conversation about vanilla bg balance cause it’s just not something you talk about at random. Vanilla BGs are well balanced now keep in mind I’m not saying perfectly balanced. It’s also the literal base game, so there’s not really anything to compare it to that is similar unless you point out other expansions, but then it’s kinda pointless to do that anyways since you are a different level, gear is different etc. I played in blizzards wsg tournament, and readyraider, and even ziqo and venruki talked about how vanilla BGs (when looking at it at a competitive lens) are very well rounded and have a ceiling that differs from other expansions.
I’ve had multiple conversations on the forums with people who both agree and disagree with me, and explain why thoroughly. You’re welcome to search my post history if you want but we could always have a conversation about it exclusively some time. We could start by talking about what exactly is imbananced about them
AB horde gate placement.
WSG Horde gates being able to clip through them.
Terrain jumps to get on roof to hide flags in WSG.
AV Horde starting position
AV Alliance horde camp bypass
AV Alliance choke point
and that’s not even getting into class balance like
I already said that account is long gone, reread the post. I had no plans on coming back to retail after I quit. You are free to say it never happened which is fine, but I still have my tournament placement I can link you proof for (this was the character which you’ll look for) - Which I think supports that i know what im saying more than the title.
Has nothing to do with classes being balanced in a group setting
Bannable offense - also never happens and the last time I saw it happen was Season of Mastery and people were suspended for it. This was back in 2021. Havent seen it since.
AV is a kiddie pool and is a pve battleground, nobody actually cares about AV. You can win AV without even so much as moving your character, completely AFK.
Again AV isnt even a real pvp battleground, its pve RP larp that you can win being completely AFK pressing zero buttons.
If you think “av balance” matters at all or that battleground in general i question your understanding of “competitive” BGs
Any actual vanilla pvp player knows the only bgs that matter are WSG/AB
Thats fine, they make the factions unique in which Alliance have more staying power (horde realistically only have priests for heals) and horde have more offensive power (shamans out dps paladins and serve as a half-healer when needed)
Blizzard wouldnt have hosted tournaments for WSG/AB if it was an imbalanced joke. Which i will bring up is probably a reason they did not host a tournament for AV teams.
WSG, AB, but no AV. I wonder why (we know why, and you should know too)
wrong warriors benefit the most from healers because of the rage mechanic. also they are simply beefier than other classes. a mage taking a beating is gonna die even if it has 3 healers on it.
