There’s a whole lot of people who are going to make that claim. The greater majority are still going to play it but sit around and complain the whole time, which is exactly how retail goes. Pay attention to the names on the forum whining about cata, they will be the same ones you see all next expansion.
I’m going to bookmark my comment here so I can come back and use it over and over on the forum next expansion.
Stop following the echo chamber. Classic stopped being Classic once TBC hit
Doesn’t change the fact that TBC had around the same population as Cata and calling Cata dead or the end of WoW makes no sense. Every game in the market has a steady growth and a steady decline.
Have no interest in playing past Wrath and even with Wrath I’m deadly bored out of my mind. Classic and TBC were the best xpacs by far. Idk how some people can want to do it all over again.
I never played WoW before classic and had a blast throughout. Raids felt like raids with 40 people and we had activities after raid nights (Among us was huge at the time). I enjoyed my time travelling the world collecting consumes for the raid since resources were semi rare and kinda expensive. Felt good.
I never planned to seriously go into TBC but I figured I would check it out. As expected the guild fractured with the 40 to 25 shift and the vibe shifted but it was still good. Wasn’t much to do outside raids now as most consumes were cheaper now and limited. Just kinda wandered aimlessly in TBC as there wasn’t much meaningful stuff to do.
Wrath rolled around and it’s still fun, but less so. Less to do in raid as an off-tank as trash damage is a joke and aoe threat and damage is through the roof. Consumes are essentially free since the resources are on hyper spawn and gold flows like water. The focus shift to acheivements for world content makes doing those things less special and more of a checkbox.
I’ll go into Cataclysm as well if the guild holds up, but I’m expecting the trend of less a engaging world to continue, which is was the big hook for me initially. The change to tank damage/healing sounds interesting but I’ll probably dip once my gold bought tokens run out if it doesn’t hold up.
TL:DR
Had a blast in vanilla, but TBC and Wrath is leaving me skeptical of Catas world and combat design.
Lol even if they do officially announce Cata Classic… It’s gonna be a totally different game as we have seen with Wrath… All of this speculation seems premature.
They shouldn’t do it. Classic + is the future of World of Warcraft. They should release new Classic expansions and stop making Retail ones. We always wanted WoW 2 and now we have a chance to get it with Classic +
The could do a Pre-Vanilla expansion for Classic + or maybe the Classic + Awakening leaks are true and we don’t go into the Dark portal and get new Zones, Raids, and story.
WotLK was the pinnacle of Classic WoW and no reason to do Cata. Launching a Classic + expansion that takes place instead of Cata that is fine.
