Back in 2017, right after Mr. Brack expressed his preference for cookies and cream, she was the first named character we saw in the introduction to World of Warcraft Classic.
I believe the audience was intended to take this as a fourth-wall-breaking joke. But, what if it wasn’t just some tongue in cheek humor. Is it possible that Classic will end up having an in-universe explanation and our deceptively little friend took some liberties with the timeline?
The reason I even bring this up is that people have been asking what will happen when Naxx is on fart. I believe that the most obvious answer is that if the World of Warcraft Classic is successful, we may just see Burning Crusade Classic. But, what about when Funwell is on fart? Second solution same as the first. But then… what about when ICC is on fart?
Some people will disagree about which of the first three incarnations of this beloved MMO was the best. I leave them to discuss that in their own threads. However, I don’t think we’re going to hear much clamor for Cataclysm Classic. We could get into discussions about why that is – the rough outline for how I feel that the game progressively lost its original appeal is: the introduction of the dungeon finder in Wrath (the wrong turn starts), Cataclysm condensing the talent trees and doubling down on queueing with the introduction of LFR (the continuous veering off course), and Mists finally obliterating talent trees, completely spec-locking your character, and introducing sharding (welcome to the ditch) – but, that’s kinda beside the point. I’m just guessing people aren’t going to want Cataclysm over again.
If WoW Classic is such a success that we see TBC Classic and WOTLK Classic, will we have all collectively (Blizzard included) come to a general agreement about what we liked about the early days – one that we can put our finger on and articulate? And if so, armed with that knowledge would Blizzard consider taking us in a different direction after that point?
Maybe so, my friends. I don’t know – but I love to hope – that Blizzard foresaw all this possibility and had our wee friend we first met in Andorhal introduce us to Classic. It’s cute and silly so it doesn’t represent a comittment that they should be asked to keep if things don’t go well. But it can also be read totally straight.
Someone once said that you can’t go home again. But they lacked vision… and a temporal discombobulator.
Is she speaking to the audience at BlizzCon 2017… or your character in-game? Only Blizzard knows. For now.
