Classes are the only thing they can't design away from

Vanilla was a game designed by fun loving artists. Modern WoW is a game designed by spreadsheets. Which is why we’ve moved away from game-breaking world buffs to scalable world quests and predictable X.1 patches.

If the design philosophy changes, you can just leave things behind in the last expansion. But what happens if the modern design team thinks DKs were a mistake, or that Monks don’t fit thematically. They’re sort of locked in.

Putting on my tinfoil hat here for a second, do you think there’s been an instance of a development team really hating a class or spec and ignoring it for an entire xpac?

I don’t think the dev team cares enough to actually hate a class.

Didnt the dev team actually SAY was it during legion maybe? That they preferred that warlocks NOT play Demo spec! That seemed like a very concerning comment lol

They hate Survival Hunters.

Classic/TBC. Shaman.

This, this right here. There was so much going on with Shamans in that time period it got to a point you never knew what you were logging into

The shaman “review” and rework was supposed to be 1.9. But paladin got it. Shaman got moved to 1.10.

Priests complained about paladins, so they got theirs in 1.10. Shaman told 1.11. Mages would be 1.12

Mages complain, so “review” combined.

Can’t even say the feedback was ignored by the devs, as it was later found out it was never even submitted.

After everyone getting outraged over all this, a blue pops up in the shaman thread “hey guys, how did you like your review?!”

The Bus Shock happened.

After being completely ignored for multiple patch cycles, the first response? “Well if you cant talk to me with respect I will just leave”

Yep, demon hunters. Blizzard absolutely hates them.

did… you forget what Ion said about Warlocks once before?

May not be true anymore, but that DID happen.

Vanilla was a game designed by hardcore raiders from Everquest lmao.

It was during WOD. The gameplay was horribly broken and instead of fixing it in 6.2 or whatever, they fixed it in 7.0. That’s why they said we’d prefer you not play Demonology Warlock.

If you play through this video, you can still hear the warlock’s tears hitting the ground if you pay real attention

Those poor warlock’s back in warlords, they didn’t just get butchered they got gutted alive

Class design is one of the biggest problems in modern WoW. It sucks. Talent trees were a waste of time.

I disagree. Have you ever seen Rogues?

Last time Rogue was truly S tier viable was Cataclysm.

Rogue stealth cooldown started while you’re in stealth

So the moment you get hit and get out of stealth you were able to get right back in

And then the rogue legendary, blizzard really loved rogues in cataclysm

Daggers+Trinket instant deleting people in Cata was the last time Rogues as a stand alone class were S+ tier.

Nowa days the Assassination 2 piece bonus will quite literally combat lock you forever until you relog - and isn’t considered a priority bug to fix.

WoD yep i remember now! I still thought it was a pretty “did I hear that right” moment lol

To add, RWF-level players of their era. And many were super elitist, especially Jeff Kaplan. (But Daddy Jeff was always a good guy.)

I hope that guy works at Amazon

They’re S tier in PVP constantly.

I think it was more along the lines of them wanting not everyone to play a Demo Warlock as , in WoD, they were extremely over-powered/broken.
