Couldn’t find a better title for this thread, wasn’t sure exactly how to convey the question at hand, but here goes.
What are some classes that have a class fantasy you like, but don’t translate well into actual gameplay?
For me it’s gotta be the Arms warrior. I absolutely love the class fantasy of a grizzled veteran swordsman relying on technique and skill to get the job done as opposed to zug zug. Unfortunately for me, I suck at arms and find the rotation to be clunky and not flow smoothly like fury does.

shadow priest have always felt extremely boring to me, it’s like a terrible warlock lite or something. it seemed cool at first and the idea of it plus bits of lore is cool but then playing it makes me just wanna go arcane or a lock spec bc it’s so bland

I have always considered Shadow Priests to be bargain basement Affliction Warlocks.

Definitely Druid. Loved it back in the day with some builds that weren’t the best but could get the job done and were fun. The new pvp talent with heart of the wild helps a little with feeling like support healer but I hate how now you can only specialize in one thing

Honestly I miss the fantasy that as a Paladin, my presence and Blessings helped strengthen my allies, which took the form of Blessing of Might/Wisdom/Kings.
I wish they came back in some form but I doubt they will. The Auras lack the noticeable oomph of seeing that Knight helmet animation appear when buffing a party or raid.

at people who don’t create the fantasy from what they have, but expect the fantasy to magically come true. I truly appreciate you and the innocence you bring to the world.

This is interesting, playing a mage class should have more a need on studies this means searches for more knowledge of magic both in the past and books. it would be good to learn techniques on how to use them. Yet in game the play we do have some but not to a good extent and it would make the game to long.
Melee SV hunter. It has that wine where you fight with pet, spear. It used to be better with traps but it’s ok with handmade bombs

Classes literally change from patch to patch and expansion to expansion. Warrior was vastly different in Wrath than it was in Legion than it is now. The way certain classes play at this very moment may or may not reflect someone’s personal preference for how that class should feel. Poor take on your part my dude

Enh Shaman. It just feels like you’re playing whack-a-mole.
If I’m an Enh Shaman I want to feel the enhancements. I want to enhance my weapons with wind and attack faster (they do this part well) but then what about Water, Earth and Fire? I wish it played in phases like “Wind phase (20 secs) → Fire Phase (20 secs)” to create a burst phase of Wind + Fire combined for 10 secs.
Then there’s the remnants of Ascendance that just feels like an old time-lost relic.
I also think Unholy DK should be more about DoTs than Pets. The DoTs don’t do anything… they’re just there ready for your burst to pop them.
Finally, Hunter. BM Hunter to be specific. What a dull spec.
Honestly, it’s been the other way around for a while now imo. I would have made the switch in SL but I don’t want to play a class with only 1 DPS spec.
Patch to patch or expansion to expansion? I appreciate you less now, by the way.
Shockingly Devastation Evoker is only devastating when it comes to their survivability.

Made me lol
Never cared for these lizards anyway
I would say Demon Hunter. Really cool class fantasy, like the style and everything. The gameplay though is awful. Having to dash around and back flip to do damage is awful. It’s definitely unique, but not in a good way.
Another would probably be Disc priest. The art and all that is really cool, so is the idea behind it. Actually playing the class though? It’s just a mess. Disc has the potential to be such a fun spec if they just didn’t have such a cluster of a rotation. It feels similar to Brewmaster. Like, why do I have so many buttons in my rotation? Just why?

Affliction lock.
I love the fantasy of a dark sorcerer that literally sucks the life out their foes. But malefic rapture as a primary spender for the spec feels so unsatisfying and so out of step with that fantasy. It just feels like I’m magically popping a bunch of pimples instead of a being a soul-sucking badass.
Yawn.

I really love playing rogue in PvP and enjoy being going outlaw. I like being a hired assassin or elite spy but I really don’t like how little survivability rogues have in open world questing.

Mistweaver Monk and Guardian Druid. I like the fantasy behind them, but actually playing them in-game just doesn’t click with me.

Enhancement shaman, I think it involves too many elemental spells nowadays, I prefer when it was more of a melee/totem spec.
Now you just crit for 200k on 5 targets, back in the days enhance was doing small numbers but in large quantities with all the windfury procs and stuff.
None of the classes truly provide the fantasy I’m looking for.
Simply put, Tinker is the class for me. I want to stomp around in a Big, rocket launching Mecha suit like we see Goblin and Gnome Characters do all the time. We see the Gob Squad with their Guns, Turrets, and Mechs. Even on the Tutorial Zone, Exile’s reach. There’s a Tinker NPC clearly having more fun with Gadgets and Gizmos than we are.
None of the Classes come close to scratching that Itch, So a lot of the time WoW’s class fantasy options make me bored instead of excited.
I have the opposite issue with death knight if that counts.
I love the gameplay of Blood DK, But I absolutely hate the fantasy of Death Knight.
