Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey

Bet you support One Nation.

Then why make your post? A dog whistle isn’t hard to detect if you know what you’re looking for. And your dog whistle is hardly subtle. Because what you’re tacitly saying is that “its ok to cast white actors as characters that they dont ethnically match but bad for black people” which is CLEARLY hypocritical and clearly racist. (I have no issue with any of the casting)

You have an issue with Lupita Nyong’o playing a Spartan from 1000 BCE but not Matt Damon playing an Ithacan then that is hypocrisy caused by racism. Neither would have any DNA from real people from this era.

The thing I find with stupid and uneducated people is that they don’t realise how obvious they are since they are too stupid to have the self-awareness to see how blatant they are.

Point is a white actress isnt still anywhere close ethnically to a woman from Sparta 3000 years ago. While modern Greeks would more in common with Bronze Age Greeks that is still very little ethnically or racially in common to Spartans or Mycenaeans from the Bronze Age.

Are you advocating that Nolan DNA test actors to see which more closely matched Greeks from the Bronze Age to do casting? How stupid would that be?

It is amazing you think people are THAT stupid they can’t work out your intentions and reasons, bogan. Because there is no other reason to have an issue with the casting ABOUT FICTIONAL CHARACTERS FROM 3000 years ago from cultures and civilisations from the BRONZE AGE that have no modern presence.

Its like the idiots complaining about not casting an Egyptian as Cleopatra even though she was descended from Alexander’s general Ptolemy (who was instrumental in preserving Homer’s epic poems btw). Even modern Greeks wouldn’t come close to being a 100% ethnic and racial match to Cleopatra who lived a 1000 years after the fictional Helen of Troy.

Now you’re going into Sky News level idiocy with these obvious and insincere moronic right wing talking points. There is no more cultural appropriation in casting an African women to play Helen of Sparta/Troy than a German actress (I had no issue with Diane Kruger being Helen of Troy in 2004’s Troy.) or casting Matt Damon to play a guy from Ithaca from 3000 years ago.

Now, if you cast an African man to play Georgios Papadopoulos in a movie then that is a VERY different matter and one I would agree with you 100%. But you can’t seriously compare a very real and recent Greek dictator to fictional characters from 3000 years ago like you are.

I notice you didnt address the question “why is ok to cast white, anglo actors to play Bronze Age Greeks but bad to cast black actors?” in your reply and you’re gone and run and the thread because you know without answering that you’ve lost the argument.

You clearly know nothing about Greek history and obviously a Murdoch press/Joe Rogan bogan.

What a stupid comment. You really think Nolan cast Lupita Nyong’o for “controversy” and not her excellent acting.

That says a lot about your taste in movies.

Jesus. You’re a nutjob.

Are you saying you know more about acting and casting than Nolan? Link me your imdb page please. Or are you just some idiot on the internet with dumb opinions?

Oh, god. I feel brain cells dying reading your comment.

The Odyssey is a mix of fantasy and history. The battles actually happened. But the mythology was just that myth.

My opinion they shouldn’t race and gender swap things. Only good race swap I’ve seen was Lawrence Fishbourne in the Witcher series.

Even in Homer’s Odyssey it said Helen was of fair skin and hair. It just doesn’t fit, and even not just her the whole cast is pretty bad. Zendaya as Athena? :joy: Pattinson dude lol. Elliot Page? Why cast her in anything she’s chopped lol. They should of at least cast some Greek actors or actresses :joy:

Good luck losing money and fans Hollyweird! Go woke go broke :joy:

I would be kinda surprised if this flops. It’s Nolan, it will make money on his name alone. But it’s an expensive movie, 250 before marketing. That’s gunna need over 600 mill return. If you consider marketing its going to be over a billion. Nolan could do it, but it might be close. Only time is going to tell with this one.

It is an alternative take on the Odyssey so there will be intrigue with this film. But I do not expect historical accuracy to be honest.

It will make money but I think it will fall short of expectations worldwide box office.

:surfing_man: :surfing_woman:

while everyone debating whether to see Odyssey or not, the teaser trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero had drop and already I am hyped af for that movie.

They used a Viking ship instead of a Greek looking one :joy:

I am not a history buff but the giants look like they are wearing full steel plate armor… in the Bronze Age. That one stood out as a wait wat?

And yes I realize I am talking about mythological giants.

15 century armor actually lol.

When you think it couldn’t get any worse

An honest review

  1. I would bet you’ve never read the Iliad or The Odyssey
  2. You know nothing about the late bronze era or the Mycenaeans.
  3. You probably listen to Joe Rogan. Enough said.
  4. Being around a bore like you would be tedious and painful.

Just because it made money doesn’t mean it’s good. It was extremely hyped, and basically broke even.

It’s garbage, not going to see it. I seen Elliot Page and asked myself why? Then said nope, I know what agenda they’re pushing!

People I don’t like are right wing…

Within few years people will forget this film exists, I saw the film I thought ok its not really rewatchable.

As an aside to the film being the topic. I didn’t listen to it because I was just ending my drive home but there was a podcast starting to talk about how rotten tomatoes is manipulation the their ratings on this film to support its woke casting.

When the show says they explain how . I was home and after an almost 90 minute drive home from a work day yeah I immediately went in my house. lol.

Agree . It’s a weird concept but something making money alone doesn’t necessarily indicate quality . This was less true decades ago before the hype machine of influencers and social media existed . But today people will support things to make statements more than because they like it. And anything sold as “pre sale” (pre order your game pre order your tickets for this concert or show) - perfect situation where hype can generate money before the “product” is viewed/seen/used etc.

Anyway for these reasons I put extremely low stock in award shows and even ratings platforms. It’s agenda based ratings not quality based.

I trust my own review or people I actually know and trust IRL.

The Oscar’s and academy awards - fake . Not worth watching at all. And I haven’t for more than a decade . If not 15 years .

No give a :poop: about the Oscar anyone. Hollywood elites pat themselves in the back and lecturing us about politics. No wonder why Oscar’s ratings are in the gutter.

There you have it. What could I say to insult you when you’ve already shown what sort of person you are and your intelligence level?

Lol, this guy openly links to Asmongold. One of the most ignorant and dumbest people on the internet. Asmongold makes Tim Pool look intelligent.

Homer would be turning over in his grave? Like a guy that literally lives in absolute filth would know anything about Homer or The Iliad or late bronze age Greece or Anatolia?

Even Homer’s knowledge of Troy (known as Wilusa in Anatolia and to the Hittites) was sketchy at best. Even Homer’s knowledge of Mycenaean Greece was inconsistent. So lets not pretend what is portrayed in The Odyssey is historically accurate or even close.

Also, Homer never intended the poems The Iliad or The Odyssey to be historical facts, but rather entertainment. Getting upset about this is like getting upset that The Avengers movies don’t accurately portray 21st century USA.

I will never be able to understand the absolute stupidity of people getting upset about the casting of something like The Odyssey.

What sick, disturbed and deranged lives you all must live.

You nutjobs are so predictable. BTW The Odyssey is over $300 million worldwide and majority is that from North America.

You were listening to a podcast. I notice you didn’t say who because you knew that would discredit any claims.
