Choosing a Covenant?

Agreed - i was also wondering how the combinations would work in raidbots.

I like the variety offered - but if it forces us to have to pay for a third party service just to figure out what’s best - then I’d rather not.

People that play in various roles also seem to be negatively impacted.

This warlock is going venthyr … hoping for some amazing bat wing cloaks

For my Warlocks it will be either be Venthyr or Necrolord.

Hmm. Hmm. Classic Vampire counts, Nagash’s legions, Stormcast or Sylvaneth.

Tricky. Have no real idea how this crossover will work, so not enough information to decide.

I want the batwings. You know they are coming.

I think having them align by spec would be the simplest solution.

And it wouldnt punish players that are willing to take on the least popular roles to help out the community.

Venthyr works for DK too, the whole suffering until we are ready to be redeemed thing has been a DK theme from the start. The Venthyr armor would look best for Blood spec though.

Night fae for me!

Yep. I do my personal content and PvP as DPS. When I’m doing stuff with the guild a lot of the time I’m tank or heals. If covenants are class locked then I probably won’t be participating in 9.0.

I mean, Me personally, i have 4 hunters, priests, and paladins…so i could do three according to what’s best and 1 according to what I enjoy, but even with the game supposedly becoming more alt-friendly, that prospect sounds daunting and I’m sure it’s not practical at a competitive level.

Question – are folks voting for their current avatar, or their current main? Davrille would go Night Fae, but my main might wind up Necrolord to stay with her best friend…

There’s been no indication they’re class locked.

Just gonna throw this fact out there for yall to stew on,

We dont have the old talent system because yall devs said (the lawyer) that they were just cookie cutter anyway and people always chose the same tree…
2019 we get covenants and you ask this question?? Why would you remove the old talent trees because of cookie cutter then offer this similar system??

WE WILL TAKE THE COOKIE CUTTER BEST DPS AND THE ONE IN DEMAND BY THE RAID ELITES FOR 200 ALEX!!!

We’ll see, won’t we? If I can only pick one per character then that’s what I mean by “class locked.” As in, I can’t change to one that’s better for a different spec. If I can pick one per spec then it’ll be great, although still not much choice if it’s a throughput question.

Would be awesome if they were cosmetic only.

Class locked would be something like the Covenant Druids can pick is Night Fae and only Night Fae. You can’t join Kyrian, Venthyr, or Necrolords.

Yeah, which is why I clarified what I meant in the next sentence. I was telling the other guy why I had chosen those words and explaining what I really intended to say.

We do have to remember though that class design is getting overhauled to be more class centric. Perhaps it won’t Matter as much/make that big a difference.

(Though i have a hard time imagining that for paladins, druids, and monks)

Yeah, I’m just worried that certain covenants will be better for tanking, healing, pvp etc. I think adding throughput to them at all is a huge mistake and I hope they don’t do it.

Having a cosmetic-only covenant would be awesome and I’d definitely be stoked to pick them for individual characters.

  • choose covenant at launch because it seems good and useful for levelling
  • hit max level and now have to respec to the best for dungeons
  • then the raid comes out and you need to switch
  • then a balance patch happens or someone theorycrafts and finds out another covenant is better
  • then you decide to dabble in battlegrounds but it requires a different covenant
  • turns out you find arena more enjoyable but it needs a different covenant
  • then you decided to switch specs but it needs another covenant
  • then you hit a certain haste breakpoint which makes a different covenant BIS

I can see absolutely no issues with a steep cost to change covenants. Nope not a single one.

Very much agree - not sure how I’d justify a Venthyr Paladin, given Uther and all the light-boys seem to be Kyrian, but we’ll see how it goes.
