The changes only affect noN recurring subs, I.E. cards that you buy in stores for game time, or tokens that you use in the shop. I know, I got mad initially when I saw it too, yet the recurring subs are still staying the same. This will only heavily affect boosters, botters and goblins as it means they have to spend more gold per token now. Although at a level i feel like its not going to impact them as heavily as blizzard thinks it will. Along with their going to be cutting out a market that logs in for like a month when the new tier drops, then waits for the next one.
I do agree this is a bit cash grabby, and I think its another bad idea in the string of events that has befallen shadowlands. Yet its not as bad as some are making it out to be!
EDIT: Seeing as people are jumping to conclsiuons:
Yes, I have been on a non reccuring sub before, in which I used to sell carrry runs and particiapte in runs. Then turn the gold I earned into game time, until SL’s, in which I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to go back to a reccuring sub
I am not defending their decison, just pointing out that it’s not as a big an impact on reccuring subs as some thinks it is. I do 100% agree this is ghreed driven, as effectivly it will cost more to use tokens, cards you purchase IN STORE. As the main draw to both was that it was a cheaper alternative to convert gold into balance, or use card balances. Over the new system their implementing which will double the cost and only aims to alienate more of the player base.
In the end I hope they revert this change, as I feel this will have a very negative impact upon the game. With it also setting the presidence for them to do other things like this in the future, which is sad to say.

Don’t chill out about it. Less options is never good, this is a stupid and a dumb move.
We all know why they’ve done this, all they want is for people to sub and forget so they keep charging until the person remembers they have to cancel it.

As a person who buys long-term game time instead of a sub when I get extra spending money (which isn’t so often) you should really broaden your horizons on how this might be effecting people who don’t do monthly subs (aka not you.)

Tokens are not changed by this.
For these people others don’t exist and an issue is an issue only if it affects them.
Other than that nothing is ever wrong and people complaining are just haters.

Imagine defending a blatantly greed-driven move.

why should I be chill about this? I pay $15 for a month if I want to play that month
now I have to pay for 2 months regardless

This doesn’t touch tokens. The price has jumped by 10K because that’s just how the community reacts to changes like this, but the tokens themselves are still only worth 30 days of game time.
Which means this isn’t going to be true for very long. Since the value of the token hasn’t changed, the price should settle back to normal relatively soon.
So… why was this done at all?

So for someone like me, who hasn’t used a credit card to pay for WoW in years (I mean, literally, I bought BFA and SL, both epic editions with gold), it means that where before I spent 71 USD worth of bnet balance for six months of game time, now I have to spend almost 90 USD for those same six months. All this does is make that same gold worth less, so I’ll have to spend more of it for the same amount of game time in the long run. In turn, that will make it more attractive for people to buy tokens to get gold, which are already more expensive than a paying for a subscription with a credit card, so Blizzard makes more money out of them.
I mean, in the end making gold is not hard in this game so it won’t affect me a whole lot. But can’t you see why all this feels a bit scummy?

This rhetoric does not hold up. I really wish people who get over this notion that more is always better.
It may not apply to everything in life, but it applies here.

“Chill about real life money during a global pandemic.”
Yeah no. It’s a global pandemic still and people acting like a massive mega rich company like blizzard that just paid their CEO out 200 million needs to be defended.
Screw this anti consumer policy.

Care to explain why not then?
How does giving out less payment options to people helps anyone but Blizzard?

Ya this is what a lot of people are angry about.
I sub on a 6 month plan. I’m still not going to chill, as I know a lot of people this will affect.

Then don’t support this company. Go play something else. Nothing is more hypocritical than to see the complaints here knowing only paid subscribers can access the forums.
Don’t covet what others have. Worry about making yours. Jealousy is one of the seven deadly sins.

This actually affects a lot of people and they should be mad about it. The fact that you are forced to spend that amount of money for two months rather then saying “hey I want to play wow but I don’t have the money for two months due to bill/loans/ children/ low income etc. so I’ll buy the 30 days.” Its now “I don’t have the money to buy wow time so now I can play it.” “Or it’s wow I can buy wow time for the next two months …week later the stove dies on you well crap I can’t buy a new one cause I wasted the extra 15$ on wow.”
