I don’t think you understand how xqc operates or grows. He wasn’t deep into chess at that point, now he knows what he is doing and is way better. Talk to me after pogchamps 3.

He was most active in pogchamps 1 (kinda afk in pogchamps 2). We’ll see. I’ll be surprised if he makes it out of groups, but it’ll depend on how afk the rest of his group is as well.
At least he’s been playing more games, and they’ve been offstream I think, which I think is good for him. I doubt he’ll win, and I even have doubts that he makes it out of groups, but it’s hard to say and still a week or so until group stage.
He grinds chess off stream like you wouldn’t believe and has been taking it seriously lately. People act like xQc isn’t likely to be smarter than them statistically speaking, but this is a guy who taught himself to speak english and rose to being the number one main tank in overwatch.
Most people posting in this forum couldn’t come close to xQc’s accomplishments within an entire devoted lifetime of their own. He has been applying himself in chess and is better than the average player by far.
Did he get world first promoted pawn?
Never thought chess would catch on as a streamer thing for the younger audience. Great games last through the ages.

CHESS is exciting even though the moves are slow. I think it is great because you can play along with the CHESSERS. I’m not really sure what a player is called.
I think Kasparov vs. Deep Blue 2021 would get a lot of viewers! Probably 100x what MDI gets.

This makes perfect sense. MDI is a niche competition in world of warcraft that’s only been a thing for the past few years. Chess is a universal game that has been around for thousands of years. Not sure why you would expect otherwise.

I’m not a big fan of him, but honestly you have xqc to thank for that.
Even AI vs. AI. Chess battle bots! Would be interesting for AI bragging rights.

Chess has a foundation as a game that will always destroy video games on many levels. It is fair, complex, requires skill, but can be understood by anyone.
To enjoy the MDI you need a LOT more involvement in the game. You can’t just get the basic rules and enjoy the show, you have to know that when they did this really weird snap trick what it meant and why it was so powerful.

If you guys like chess you should check out Queen’s Gambit on Netflix, probably more movie than reality but I enjoyed it

I actually think it would be amusing for someone to write something like emscripten to output lua code so you could get stockfish working in a wow addon. However, a player vs player chess addon would be way easier.
I’m not sure there’s any reason for that, though, since you can just play on chess.com or lichess in a browser on a 2nd monitor.
But this post is about the MDI competition, not WoW in general.
WOW is falling into obscurity. If CHESS releases an expansion pack it would probably dwarf MMOs like WOW.

Chess is on the rise, but this has nothing to do with WoW or Wow falling into obscurity.
It’s just that chess is finding it’s feet in the streaming world. I mean, in the past, Chess was always looked as an elitist, lonely sport that was difficult to do more than just casual, over-the-board hobby … But there has been a huge digital-age shift for chess … People like GM Hikaru, IM GothamChess (and many many more) becoming huge streamers … Competitions such as PogChamps (which is a competition designed specifically to pull in Twitch’s largest streamers such as xQc, Pokimane, etc) and many more … Basically, Chess has exploded because it’s only been recent that the effort has been made.
Chess has more appeal to all ages.
Can’t believe I’m saying that.
I’m a grandma and I like WOW but I think they could do a much better job with the game.
