Character transfer for my child character

I let my 8 year old son create a character on my WoW account. I was wondering if it was possible to get another WoW sub and move his character to that account. would i need a 2nd battle.net account?

At the end of the day we want to play together on 2 computers and i was wondering if it was possible to get his character onto a new account somehow

You can either add a new wow to your already existing battle.net account, or make a new battle.net account. If you choose to make a new battle.net account, in order for the transfer to work the account names would have to be the same (not sure if it works for last names, or full name only).

Probably easier to just add a wow account to your already existing battle.net account.

I hope this was helpful haha

yes thank you!
We would be able to play at the same time on the same battle.net account?

Yes. I have two accounts on the same b-net and I can log into both and have my characters interact. For instance, have them group so a mage can make a port for another character.

Edit: From what I understand, you can have up to five accounts linked on the same b-net. The advantage to having them under the same b-net is they will share all account-bound items such as mounts, etc. One disadvantage I know is battle pets are shared, so I think it would be hard to do pet battles if you’re both trying to do them at the same time. When your child is no longer a minor, they will have to have their own b-net account (if they are still playing WoW by then) and all shared items will be lost.

It’s better to make a new account for your son. If he continues to play once he’s of age he will no longer be allowed to play on your battle.net account. And if they allow the account he is playing on to move off your battle.net account he would lose most if not all the achievements and mounts.

I concur with Praetorian. It is best for children to have their own Battle Net account from the start.

Vrakthris made a great post about this:

Vrakthris also made a very good post detailing why it is best to go ahead and have the separate Battle Net accounts from the start.

Here is a support article to help you create the new account:

That does seem like it is the way to go…but would that also mean purchasing shadowlands again and in the future needing to buy 2 of each expansion?

Correct. But if the child continues playing, they at least get to keep what they earn if they have their own account.

Luckily, Shadowlands is currently on sale.

Depends if he gets bored once he hit 50 in 1-2yrs well probably have a new expansion and SL will be rolled into the base game at 8yrs old attention span can be fleeting. Id also suggestion parental controls on his account the game is T for a reason.

This also would have been a necessity for a second license, regardless of it being on the same Blizzard Account or a separate one.

While most of the important points have already been touched on - I’d just like to reiterate a few.

Can you do this either way? - Yes
Would separate licenses have the same subscription and upgrade conditions either way? - Yes
I personally suggest a secondary Blizzard Account - under YOUR name for minor children for a few reasons.

  • If a license is later moved, any collections stay behind on the original Blizzard Account.
  • Parental controls are a very handy tool - but they impact all licenses on a Blizzard Account. Should you wish to use them, they’d also impact your license on the same Account.
  • Security can be managed better with two Blizzard Accounts.
  • It is a far simpler and cleaner process to get a Blizzard Account of a minor switched over to them when the time comes.
  • Licenses on the same Blizzard Account have some restrictions - mainly pet battles and messaging - depending on which license logged in first in a session.
  • While two licenses can be logged into from the same Blizzard Account, there is a little bit of logging out of the launcher, etc., that must be done to accomplish that. Should the second license log in without going through the proper steps, it can knock the first one offline.

Just setup another Blizzard Account with another email identical to your first, use that to apply the new license - and don’t forget to RAF it!
