well most of the changes people are asking for are from wrath (including this thread). and wrath was considered the most successful expansion in wows history.

Do you have proof of that? Because I’ve looked and found no explanation anywhere as to why it took until 2008 to introduce barbershops and the Character Re-customization service. Character customization has always been a crucial element of roleplaying games, and even in 2004 you would be hard-pressed to find many roleplaying games that didn’t offer extensive character customization options.

So, was it a matter of principle?

Was it a coding issue akin to how changing the backpack broke seemingly random, major elements of the game?

Was it an afterthought that they simply didn’t think of until they were knee deep in dungeon/raid/tier set/class design, bug fixes, expansion development, and deadlines?

You don’t know. I don’t know. Nobody here knows. The only ones that do know are those said original designers, the very same ones that - in 2008 - finally did end up adding barbershops, gender changes, and character re-customization.

I mean I’ve just been around the block, you used to be able to talk with devs at Blizzcon, some of it’s word of mouth, some of it is from things Kevin Jordan has said on various podcasts or discussions on his channel with ex-Blizz alumni.

2008 Blizzard was not the Blizzard that built the initial conception for WoW by the way, Alan Adham who is largely credited for the success of WoW on most of it’s philosophies early on, actually left the company I believe just before the game went live. He’s back now, but working on a totally different arm of Blizzard.
