OP, you’re talking about using gun sounds from a different game in Classic. Which is…absurd.
Why is that? I did the same thing in 2004.

The OP kindly acknowledged that most people enjoy the gun sound and to please just post advice. But no, 90% of comments in here are of no help just comments doing exactly what OP asked not to do.
If someone can figure this out though that would be awesome. As a hunter, the gun sound literally gives me a headache to the point where I have to put the game on mute.

You need to hear the gun sound when my warrior is maximum disrespect finishing you off with a gun tho.

Pretty sure they changed the file structure or some such thing and you can’t replace sounds anymore. I was looking for cool sniper sounds and tried replacing the base sounds myself, also didn’t work. But I saw mention of them disabling the ability to do so and gave up.
I know they changed file structures back in Vanilla in part due to people altering client-side models (I had a Murloc Imp on my Warlock). I think the sounds one was different though.
Look for “Gun Silencer / Suppressor (Classic)” on WoW Interface. It’s not the retail sound effect but it’s something similar.
I hunt. I have guns. But they are loud and annoying. In rl and in wow. I carry ear protection around my neck when I hunt with the larger rifle that I can easily pop on before I fire.
I know people who shoot a lot who are losing hearing in their right ear. But I guess for some people going deaf in one ear is proof that you’re a real man.

Yes, I won’t use a gun if it’s a small upgrade over my bow. It would have to be massively better before I put up with the constant sound of gun fire.

Managed to figure it out tonight.
My so called Rigorous testing missed out one important detail - Windows 10 doesn’t display file extensions by default so if you add a .ogg file extension to a ogg vorbis file it makes it a file with a .ogg.ogg extension and the game cheerfully ignores it.
You’ll want to make a folder at -
World of Warcraft\_classic_\Sound\item\weapons\gun
and populate it with ogg vorbis files of names -
GunFire01.ogg
GunFire02.ogg
GunFire03.ogg
gunload01.ogg
gunload02.ogg
gunload03.ogg
Or just download and install -

I’m trying to do this but the reverse - make the bows/crossbows sound like guns - is it just the same thing but rename your “Gun” folder “Bow” - and change the filenames?

So…can we change the sound to a wet fart? Kind of like the fart guns from the Minions movies? I mean that would really make my day.

cause its fckin obnoxious having to listen to it for 6 xpacs if you play with sound on. Loud is cool, and the old sounds are iconic and engrained into my memory, but so is the headache of hearing that over and over and over.
