I dont think anyone disagrees.
Thatās another thing that was better.
Ilvl scaling is one of the worst cancers ever inflicted upon this game. Absolute complete and total trash that they need to do away with.
I would go so far as to say that I would accept Korean MMO-tier cash shop BS, if the trade off was the removal of ilvl scaling. Itās that bad and cancerous to the game, that even p2w isnāt as bad as ilvl scaling.
WoD was great. I use my WoD Hearthstone to go to my fortress all the time and use the portals. I have music playing in the background of my fortress and dress it up for holidays.
What hurt WoD was the inability to log into servers when it launched⦠isolating players in their fortress from other players and major cities⦠came out with only three raids⦠Grimall Depot and Skyreach were very unpopular⦠Thrall killed Garrosh Hellscream his best friend with one blow when every player in MoP Siege of Ogrimmar failed to do so⦠The Horde set up their base in the hideous frozen tundra of Frostfire Ridge (the first Maw) and Horde players were so far from Ashran and Tanaan Jungle than the Alliance⦠Naval battles actually were too challenging for some⦠Players didnāt like the Ashran PvP battleground⦠It was impossible to find all the objects necessary to create an AH in your fortress⦠I could keep going on and on and on!
But it was easy to obtain crafting items and do crafting. Fishing was a pain! The zones were pretty spectacular to behold except for Frostfire Ridge. The mission board made it SO EASY to make money and gave away super cool mounts! That was never repeated again in Legion, BfA or Shadowlands. Taanan Jungle was the best Endgame in any expansion.
WoD despite some flaws and setbacks was SUPERIOR to Shadowlands in every way!
No oneās mind has ever been changed on these forums.
The trading post in the Garrison was the best expansion. Starcraft Brood War in second place ![]()
I liked having all those gathering nodes in the garrison. Thatās the only expansion where I did professions for more than a few hours.
Theyāre too boring otherwise.
Not disagreeing, but there are like way more than 10 currencies unique to Shadowlands - anima, stygia, korthia cyphers, ZM cyphers, cosmic flux, Infused Rubies, Sinstone Shards, genesis motes, stygian embers, tower knowledge, soul ash, soul cinders, genesis motes, rescued souls, grateful offerings⦠I could probably continue lol.
Heck yeah!
That selfie patch was pure fire.
It was just a product of them panicking because of the reaction to garrisons and scrapping most of their ideas for the expansion.
If you break everything down piece by piece, every aspect of the game is better in shadowlands is superior to WoD. The systems in systemland are what makes for a poor player experience.
Which makes it okay?
I donāt see what point youāre trying to make.
WoD had the best PvP gearing this game has ever seen⦠and because there wasnāt any Warmode, the WPvP scene was outstanding. Those alone make it the better expansion.
Not really, but it wouldnāt have happened if people didnāt get stirred up over nothing.
I know everyone universally hates WoD, but I donāt even remember what I was doing back then. I remember running LFR on my Ally DK that doesnāt even exist anymore and thatās it. No bad memories, no good memories.
Normally, Iād say the expansion was so inconsequential that it didnāt even leave a memory, which you could take that either way, but then you have to think about how some people who have extreme trauma forgo memory of it.

WoD was the worst dumpster fire of an expansion. BfA wasnt that bad, i hated it at first, but once i found my niche, i enjoyed it way more. SL is terrible too and a dumpster fire, but its a regular dumpster fire, WoD was a dumpster fire at an indian restaurant that hasnt been emptied in a monthā¦
oh, and my morning leak, had more content than 6.1.
WoD
- Lore was creative, really dived back into āWarcraftās rootsā after MoP.
- Leveling up through each zone was quite enjoyable.
- Garrisons were both good and absolutely terrible at the same time (the longer the expansion progressed, the more tedious they became and they alienated the community from one another).
- Large swathes of content were cut and/or abandoned to work on Legion.
- The PvP scene was apparently excellent, but I donāt PvP so I canāt really comment here. From what I can tell, it has never been as good since.
BFA
- Great storytelling outside of the raid-related arcs. Zone-related stories were actually quite well done.
- Uldir was interesting enough, but felt incredibly detached from the Allianceās story.
- DazarāAlor was pretty lit though.
- Wasted potential by fitting Nazjatar into half a patch.
- Wasted potential by cramming NāZoth and Nyalotha into a single patch.
- Excellent transmog appearances.
- āContinuously relevantā borrowed powered systems effectively destroyed the gameplay experience. Chasing gear was a nightmare.
- Wasted potential on Island Expeditions and Warfronts. Great concepts that could have been executed better.
Shadowlands
- Worst lore WoW has ever had.
- Borrowed power systems were all over the place, though it was at least somewhat detached from gearing (unlike BFA).
- The āchoose your covenantā system was miserable and made no sense from a lore perspective.
- Afterlife high-fantasy is hard to ācome back fromā.
- Did I mention the lore was bad?
- Expansion cut short (though theyāre not willing to admit this yet) due to several factors. Lots, and lots, and LOTS of wasted potential to revisit (while still properly moving away from) old Warcraft characters.
Between the 3, Iād rank them (from best to worst):
- WoD
- BFA
- ā¦
- ā¦
- Shadowlands

WoD was better for leveling/zone story line.
But as a whole? The expansion was much much worse than SL.
An expansion where you donāt have anything to do, for me, will always be worse.
Nah Iām cool you think whatever you want not my job to change your mind.
BUT if you are talking just on questing Iād be hard press to disagree with you ā I thought WoD questing was fantastic.
Every expansion is better than SL and bfa.
