I don’t think it’s that people think evokers are tanks. It’s that they want them to be tanks. Draconic soldiers that can use the powers of the black dragonflight to bolster their defenses and take hits for their allies. Scalecommander Azurathel will say “we are the shield of the dracthyr” as a greeting. And even his weyrn’s name, the Obsidian Warders, feels like it could’ve been hinting at evoker tanks. Neltharian was the Earth Warder, and then there’s the black spell Obsidian Scales being a defensive. To me, it seems like they could’ve had plans to make an evoker tank at one point, plans that obviously didn’t come to fruition.
How about we go the druid route and have 4 specs, tank being the 4th.
the aug spec seems to be a DPS spec that nerfs your own DPS while soloing which makes it a DPS spec no one can or will use until they are in a group. Is that a correct understanding.
Evoker are casters. People seem to be confusing the class with the race.
There is no such thing as a ranged caster tank.
Yes, the evokers we have are casters, but saying evokers could have never been planned to have a tank spec wouldn’t be accurate. If the devs really wanted them to be tanks, they would. While shaman doesn’t have a tank spec, it does have a heal spec, a ranged caster spec, and a melee spec. Druids aren’t pigeonholed into casters because of balance and restoration, they still have guardian and feral. Having caster and heal specs doesn’t prevent melee and tank specs. Whether they ever intended to make evoker tanks or not is simply speculation, but they could make an evoker tank spec. There is nothing preventing evokers from using their powers in a melee fashion besides the devs not wanting evokers to be melee at all.
I honestly doubt Blizz wanted to ever make them tanks. They promoted it as the first caster hero class.
My point is that Dracthyr have different Weryns and were built for different things. Evokers were the elite of the elite— but they are casters.
Dracthyr could be foot soldiers and probably tank.
Evokers learned to wield the power of all five flights and mastered that art as casters.
It’s a distinction Blizz wanted to make, probably because if they’re not special snowflakes, then they’re not really a hero class. lol
I think the theory here is that they weren’t meant to be a new flavor of Druid, which is most likely why Blizz wasn’t going that route. They’re meant to be kept as casters. It’s a selling point of the hero class.
Now what I’d like to see is playable Drakonid and let me be a warrior. I’d totally tank on one of them!
And i just did an entire long and involved questline to “free” them and they were given the opportunity to do whatever they wanted with their lives.
Playable Drakonid!!
