I wouldn’t complain if hero gear could be upgraded fully with runed crests but I have just been upgrading them with gilded crests I get from the map chests in delves. For those of us who focus on delves, hero gear is the best we have access to. It makes sense to upgrade the gear using gilded crests as we get them. I just wish we could get gilded crests from T10/11 delves and not just have to use the map drops to get them.
But if you have access to myth gear, then yeah, it makes sense to skip fully upgrading hero gear. Similar situation for me with champion gear. I generally don’t fully upgrade it since I can just get hero gear starting at 610 or 616.
As someone who can’t get gear higher than hero track, I can tell you for a fact that hero track gear is most definitely superior to champion track gear. It starts at higher ilvl and ends at higher ilvl.
So, you want… Veteran 4/4 Champion 4/4, Hero 4/4, and to remove the value of upgrading a piece of gear with crests (that already become obsolete) to be comparable performance-wise until you luck out with the great vault or the drop you want?
Ehhh.
I will keep the current method so you can get LFR/Normal/Heroic/Mythic transmog by only getting a veteran and hero piece instead of farming all four for every slot.
That was my response to someone else. If you want to get hero gear to 623, spend 15 crests. You can wait for it to drop on myth track but for a lot of items that is either gated behind a higher raid boss or gambling for the great Vault to give you just what you want.
There’s a lot of little tricks to maximize the value of your crests, upgrading a hero track item to Max makes it the equivalent of a Mythic item upgraded once, which is usually why you upgrade everything equally with a few exceptions for high impact items, so you are more likely to get the drop by having an easier time through the content.
What I want, is people to be able to upgrade their gear by doing the content they’re doing.
The whole “you have to get Gilded crests from M+ to make your Hero-track gear 6/6” is what’s leading to all the “M+ is so hard because I can’t die all the time anymore” garbage that’s clogging up the forums.
I think I see what the OP’s getting at. For lower gear tracks, the latter half of the upgrade path has the same crest requirements as the first half of the next track up. But for some reason it all gets weird with hero and myth track gear. I think that’s essentially the OP’s point, that the last two upgrade tracks aren’t really consistent with the rest of them.
There’s a saying for that, it’s called throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It would negatively impact everyone and people who whine will just find something else to whine about and nothing will change.
With Champion track, you have to start spending Runed Crests once you have a piece at 606, with the next upgrade taking you to 610 (the baseline for Hero track gear). Then if you upgrade the Champion track beyond that, you’ll get a discount on getting any Hero track gear to that point - e.g. if you upgrade a Champion piece to 619, you don’t need to spend Runed Crests to get a Hero piece to 619.
The same applies to Hero to Mythic track. Because of the discounts, you’re essentially paying a premium of 15 Crests to get to the baseline item level for the next tier earlier.
Without the discount, I definitely think it would have been a problem of “wasting” crests, but with the discount it seems fine to me.
Delves are in an odd spot, where Blizzard are cautious about providing a good source of Gilded Crests, leaving it as the only “endgame pillar” that cannot realistically fully upgrade its gear without going elsewhere. I can now trade Runed for Gilded, so I’ll see how that goes, but a ratio of 90:15 feels pretty rough, especially with T8 Delves only giving 2 Runed Crests per completion.
I hope it stay as is now. Its more rewarding. Thats still a important part of a mmorpg. And i hate grind. WHy you not complaining and focus on more important things? Like too much addons. I want a DBM built into the came. DPS meter too. Make the game more visible, and people will like grind mythics even when they need high key for heroc gear update.
I think that given Gilded Crests drop from content that doesn’t provide Mythic track gear, yes.
Especially if you aren’t relying on Delves, I imagine that your income of Runed Crests should be notably higher making trading them for Gilded Crests much more achievable.
If Gilded Crests were limited only to content that drops Mythic track gear, then I think you’d be right. It seems like that’s an issue with raids, but that seems more a problem with the raiding reward system than the gear system. I’d imagine that the later portion of a raid on Heroic should provide Gilded Crests.
Essentially, the overlap in the item upgrade system also needs to be mirrored in how the crests are rewarded in content.
I have no clue wtf youre talking about. I Want 619<623 to cost Runed and not Gilded, so theres and actual purpose to hero gear for people that have the ability to get myth gear.
Upgrading through those item levels activates a discount. But it just offers choices as you can choose to wait for better gear or improve what you have while you wait. It’s your choice.
Considering most players won’t get myth track items, and anyone not raiding can only get 1 piece a week, I’d disagree on that topic, but how you spend your crests is your business.
