Chain lightning

Hi folks! I’m trying to help out a guildie and we have had an issue on several dungeon runs. She is enhance and her chain lightning is pulling mobs not in combat, even bosses sometimes. I don’t play shaman so I don’t know the mechanics of the spell. I can say it generally happens at the very end of a pull when one of the last one or two mobs up die or are almost dead. Any idea what may be going on?

For enhancement it jumps three times. It has a jump distance of maybe 10 yards? Can’t jump the same target twice so if you have 3 guys in a line and you hit the middle it’s not going to hit the one on the other side. But if you hit on one of the ends I’d go though all three.

So basically don’t use it in situations where you’re near out if combat mobs you don’t want to pull.

I’ll relay that but it’s so odd it is jumping to non combat mobs.

If she’s running Deeply Rooted Elements and Thorim’s Invocation, it is entirely possible she’s actually pulling with 30 yd range autoattack, or she hit Stormstrike without a target and the boosted range auto-targetted and blasted a nearby pack.

A good habit for melee casters to have is to position themselves where there is nothing behind the pack they are dpsing. This usually involves running beside the pack and making a 90 degree turn so the wall is behind the mobs, as opposed to facing down the corridor where all the other mobs are.

This will greatly reduce tab target and auto target fails (which is what your friend is probably doing). With melee it can be tough to target new mobs as they die in the mosh pit and thus we usually resort to tabbing. When the last mob dies or if the pack has repositioned behind us somehow it is super easy to tab and target the next pack. Pretty huge problem when your attacks have a 30 yard range.

Physical melee typically don’t have the range for this to be a problem, and ranged will usually be far enough back that they can’t target the next pack. Melee casters on the other hand…
