Rogues are one of the most survivable melee dps lol they have feint, cloak, evasion, recup, and even cheat death for sub rogues. Shamans are the squishy ones.
Yeah I don’t think I’ll be touching my warlock at all this expansion.

Fire mage and ele alt are the bis.
Nothing is better than spamming chain lightning into a pack of mobs.
Hunter is pretty amazing too. The triple multi-shot AoE burst is sweet.
it has ALWAYS been world of rangedcraft, you are about 15 years late to realize it.
I was just speaking in general using my own experiences with the two classes, and not with any particular xpac in mind.
Rogues are incredibly squishy lol. While they have some survivability tools, it’s only a Band-Aid against the vast majority of boss mechanics. Casters are much more forgiving and easier to play in general which was the point of the OP’s post.
Warlock is definitely the most complex by far, and not nearly rewarding enough for the amount of effort, but they are quite fun to play when you get it down. Aff and Demo especially peak here in Cata gameplay wise, even with the less than S+ tier numbers.
I mained Warlock during both OG Cata and OG MoP, and personally hate what they became with MoP’s insanely overrated redesign.
MoP Warlocks rode on Aff and Destro becoming broken OP thanks to the devs braindead tuning, but the class re-design was truly a complete failure, and we saw that come to fruition when WoD re-balanced Lock DPS and everyone stopped playing all 3 specs because they were horribly un-fun. Nobody can counter that fact.
Ret also brings the most utility of any DPS spec in the game, both caster and melee, which matters in 10-man, aka the vast majority of raiding guilds. Ret is not hurting, even if they’re no longer on top, and they won’t ever be turned away just for being Ret. Other melee DPS specs meanwhile…
On top of all of that they’re the easiest DPS spec in the game by far. It’s almost laughable how few buttons they have while everyone else got bloated.
Sorry, but it’s a skill issue if you think rogues are incredibly squishy.
Rogues can have 60% uptime on 50% AoE DR (which encompasses most raid mechanics), can remove the vast majority of harmful debuffs, can potentially face tank a boss for 15 seconds, can sustain themselves without external healing, and can straight up eat one-shot mechanics without dying every 90 seconds if they’re sub spec. They may actually be the most survivable melee.
Yeah, I agree that’s why I said the same earlier in the thread.
Lol everything is easy in classic. That’s why you guys play it.
Funny as I’m pretty sure Cataclysm was when they actually started going hardcore on mechanics that only targeted ranged
It depends on the boss and the expansion. I have played since the tail end of WOD, it really depends on which group has it worse at what time.
Yeah tbh it depends on the raid tier.
They both easy tho.
? Melee literally has every boss as a target dummy, what? Range always has to deal with more mechanics than melee as well as planning casts before mechanics or movement. Melee is faceroll and always has been. Hunters specifically have always had the role of ***** because they’re the most mobile and best to deal with mechanics.
I play it because retail is hot garbage filth and sod era is meme now.
99% of the time those range mechanics also target melee also.
I can think of one whole boss in this phase with ranged-only mechanics.
Melee also have to plan for max uptime. And they can’t hit things from 40 yards away.
“hot garbage filth” = presents challenge im incapable of doing
I mean you sound like a bad caster… why polymorph an add in that scenario. One it heals the add two it breaks easy. A real mage would use their kit of stuns slows interrupts and just kite the add. Fire mages for example use fireblast as a spread for dots but also as a stun. Dragons breath. Frost nova. Blast wave slows. Blinks. Ice blocks invis drop aggro and regain threat to extend kiting like dude u talk about bad casters but you are one.
Lol you are comparing anecdotal evidence from like what 10 plus years ago to your experience now here in classic lol. Smh.
Poly doesn’t break easy in dungeons, maybe it does in raids. I’ve never raided with my mage. You’re taking about a dps almost completely stopping dps to spend their time kiting a mob. Even if poly broke easy it would make sense to attempt to poly first to see if it held before kiting the mob. You don’t sound like a very good caster yourself.
