Can't pull myself to do M+

Personally I like M+ but can’t stand raiding.

  • Time investment: M+ is 30 min over the 2 hour norm of raiding and most groups don’t want to stop for bathroom or smoke breaks.
  • Scheduling: M+ can be done at any time on any day were you normally need to join a guild and set aside a time slot each week for raiding.
  • Mythic raiding restrictions: You need to be on the same server, raid at a specific time and day, you have a shared lock out so you can’t split your runs, and if you miss any day you screw over 19 other people as they have to find a replacement which if they can always make it will end up taking your spot as its better for the group.
  • Loot Drama: I’m too old to mediate all the BS that comes with loot distribution.
  • Constant Downtime: The need to explain the same fight week after week despite it being on farm for 6 months, or worse after every wipe.
  • Being held back by the weakest link: This still happens to some degree in M+ but its more noticeable in raids where the same person dies to the same mechanic over and over again. This is particularly bad when its a mechanic that kills not just yourself but multiple people.
  • Weekly lockout: I just want to play when I want to but if I clear the raid Tues I’m bored until next Tues, M+ however gives me something to do all week long.
  • IO Score: This gives me a goal that I can push for whenever I feel like it. It may be break into the top 100 for the realm on my spec or it might be break 2k IO but there is always something to work towards.

I did +20’s for all dungeons just to get the portals. Than I found out:

  1. They are character only not account bound.
  2. All portals share the same CD.
  3. That CD is absurdly long (8 hours) unless you clear its associated dungeon.

This meant that they were useless for the purpose I had hoped for which was a quick way to get to different areas to clear old content for transmog runs.

I could have sworn they reset if you completed any M+ dungeon, not just the one you ported to.

It might be but I tend to run my M+ in clumps so I wouldn’t normally alternate transmog run than M+ run than transmog again.

Fairly certain he asked a question. What drive people to spam M+ endlessly?

The MoP and WoD challenge mode portals also reset when doing mythic+ keys which has been nice for doing these older dungeons.

Even though it only saves like 3 minutes of flying.

will never raid again and would quit if pushed even a little more. i’ve led the life and the burn out was real

raiding has become boomer, facebook gameplay to me. Negative interest in tying my life to internet randos. no interest in giant blocks of scheduled gameplay. feels like i’m in some bridge club when asked to interact with that slop

I share the sentiment… I like to see the content and gear up my characters, but I have no desire to grind out higher scores. At a certain point, my gear progression limits overtake the push… then I meta-game the AH until next release.

I started the expansion off extremely strong with all 6 healers classes plus a DK and warrior tank within the first two weeks. Got them all to 380 ilvl, then began to realize problems with several of them. My resto shaman felt considerably worse compared to all other 5 healers, so I dropped him. I didn’t like the 30 yard range of Prevokers, so I dropped him. I wanted for the caster version of holy paladin to be viable, but it just simply isn’t, so I dropped him as well. Then I felt like it was too much of a hassle to remember all the pulls for my tanks and run healers at the same time. I only wanted to play tanks if I felt like I had the time to be proficient in them. By the time I got the remaining ones to 395, I didn’t feel like going higher than +15s because of the difficulty. So, I kind of felt like, “what else is there to do here now?” I demolished the quests, didn’t see any point to leveling up professions because it’s cheaper and faster to just buy what you want.

Now I hardly log in.

I still like to “raid,” so I stick with LFR, but as far as any real focus, i guess it would be PvP, though I’m just focusing on fun, really. I’m just doing a bit of everything (some things more than others), but I’m not getting mixed up with the hang-ups of others. That means queued content only, but with solo shuffle, that helps out a ton for a track to max PvP gear. I don’t know why, but I (almost) always enjoy the random epic/BGs, and always have, and I’m really glad i don’t need an actual team to accomplish the gearing.

Just have fun, even if that means doing lesser activities. Gear means nothing if you aren’t enjoying the use.
Fun>gear>>>>>other people’s concerns (as long as you aren’t trolling, lol).

I enjoy M+, but on my own schedule. Unfortunately it’s an unspoken requirement to raid, so I do what I can during the week. If I run out of time due to RL events, then I’ll buy a run.

Same boat. I got my 2500 and I’m probably going to slam 4 SBG’s a week until 10.1

So you WANT TO get KSM but you dont WANT TO go any higher and dont understand why anyone else would WANT TO? Got it…

Loot. Its loot.

Its the easiest and fastest way to get the highest ilvl you can. Thats why people do it.

People will say things like “just do the content you enjoy and the rewards shouldnt dictate this!”

Yeah… cuz all the people grinding cobalt and obsidian citadel were doing that because they enjoy it and not for the rep rewards.

These people don’t raid. They don’t understand that huge ilvl people who spam dungeons make it next to impossible for people who prefer raiding to get into one.

You can be fully decked out in a complete set of heroic raid gear with AOTC, and still be declined in favor of someone who spammed a few dungeons.

This is going to get worse this week, and the amount of heroic raid reclear queues is about to drastically reduce, just like it did with the jailer.

Tl;dr - you don’t get the appeal because the necessary consequences of m+ SHOULD make it unappealing. It is terrible for the game.

Well said dude

I guess all content isnt for everyone.
I never liked M+ but i like pvp and raids and world content. That’s more than enough to enjoy the game.

The need to let players use this stuff and and chaos for buying sockets and stuff like that to make m+ more appealing and rewarding.

Players have hundreds of chaos and primals that they’ll never use already.

If you want to make an argument about the “broader picture,” it doesn’t make sense to narrow your scope to the very small amount of people pushing 20 plus at the end of a season.

People run m+ for easy gear period.

I feel the same way as a tank. I would prefer to raid exclusively. But I’ve hit a bit of a gear wall with drops and the great vault so looks like I’ll have to run keys for a couple pieces…

The more you push keys, the better you get
The better you get, the better you’re able to carry the deadweights in your raid group

W?

I was planning on it but I only do it for the mount, and I don’t like the mount this time around. The gear upgrades are cool but it’s not needed to raid.
