Yup, just had this exact experience.
Can’t fish, can’t dig up disturbed earth. This is a doozy.
edit: So I started in Hallowfall with the Saturday quest, and I could fish fine. I ported to Dorn and started having the bug. Came here to post, then hearthstoned to Ringing Deeps. I was able to fish there. I log out for RL reasons, then log back in, and now I’ve got the bug in Ringing Deeps. This is maddening.
So I port back to Dornogal, and I’m able to fish in the city, but still have the bug outside where there are actual pools.
annnnd this bug bricked the fishing quest for me. I logged out, and when I came back the quest had timed out (why would the timer still tick down while logged out??)… I figured, np, I’ll just drop it and retry it. Well, apparently once you have caught one of the fish needed for the quest, that’s the only time you can get credit for it. So having caught 1 or 2 of the fish needed in my previous attempt, I can no longer get credit for them when retrying the quest. Fantastic!

Confirmed. Can’t fish in Hallowfall or Ringing Deeps. Cast starts and immediately disappears, as if I am in combat or being attacked, yet I am not. So absolutely bizarre.

had this happen to me was fishing in stormwind at the lake, had to log off to go get some meds, and when I came back got this bug. So I moved to the area that was the park and fished just fine there.
edit:
seem there is some render lag loading the bobber. I use the oversized bobber and it takes time for it to fully render.
Same issue but in Hollowfall, thanks for ruining the fishing tourney
Entering and exiting a Follower dungeon fixed this for me. How long will it last? WHO KNOWS

Same problem, which began after I accepted the weekly Fishing Derby quest in Hallowfall.
I have 300 points in fishing.
All was well at first and I fished up two of the trophy fish very quickly.
Then I did some traveling to see of I could find a pool to fish for the Pale Huskfish ( which is the last fish I need for the Derby Dash accomplishment ). As it has been for weeks now, I just can’t catch the Pale Huskfish while the Derby is active. And this week was the same.
With about 15 minutes left on the timer, I went back to Hallowfall to catch the final Derby fish, to complete the weekly quest. At that point I discovered that fishing was bugged; as soon as I cast the fishing line, it would simply vanish.
Fishing became impossible.
So I broke off and fought some low level monsters, which killed me when I was suddenly afflicted with a debuff that drained away my health.
Also, when I dug up a disturbed earth, the rewards and/or the attacking monster simply vanished a second or two after it appeared.
After I died a couple of times from the mysterious draining debuff, I abandoned the Derby quest.
I went back to the quest giver and was able to reacquire the Derby quest. I started fishing and it seemed to be okay…until I caught a trophy fish for the quest, but did not receive credit for it.
I give up.
I’m having this issue in Hallowfall (have not tried other areas).
I flew away and came back, which helped, but it’s back again and my bobber immediately disappears once it hits the water.
Same, can’t fish at all currently.
Also having this problem - literally only in the isle of Dorn, all 3 other zones still appear to be working… so frustrating!!

I can confirm that going into and out of a Delve does seem to fix this bug.
I’m having the same issue doing the fishing daily in Thunder Bluff. I cast, and a second later, the bobber just vanishes. The weird thing is, I did the daily on two characters and it worked fine. Tried the rest of my characters, and none of them can fish. I tried using the oversized bobber, NOT using the oversized bobber, turned off my addons, turned my addons back on… no luck. Oddly enough, I logged into one of my characters in my garrison, and fishing works.

This is what is happening to me in pools in other countries too.
I’m having the same problem after finishing the Derby on my first toon today once I left Hallowfall.
But don’t worry they will fix this in 12.0.

Same. Really frustrating, particularly in the middle of the fishing derby.
Same, I can’t fish anywhere now it’s like it just kept progressively getting worse and worse to where I cast and it immediately cancels. Tried all areas, tried using hearthstone, tried restarting game, computer… nothing
Again, if you can’t fish, go into a Delve and then exit. This has worked for multiple people now.

I switched zones and that did the trick. And that does qualify as a “trick or treat” trick, but 2 days late in typical fashion.
Again the question must be raised, does Blizz even have a QA department? Magic 8 Ball sez unlikely.
I cannot fish anywhere. Earlier I was having the problem in Hallowfall. Got the derby fishing quest then I was able to fish. Then after fishing a couple of pools I wasn’t able to fish again. Still currently cannot fish, anywhere.
