I just bought a 7k Burnished Mining Bag for my alt who is a Miner but it says “no equipment slot is available for that item”. There’s no restrictions in the tooltip. As far as I can tell this is not considered a reagent bag I guess? Why would it be called a mining bag if I cant put my mining reagents in it???

you can put it in a regular bag slot.

It’s only the new bags you find listed under “reagent bag” in the AH that are considered “reagent bags”.
It’s not an actual reagent bag because it’s restricted to mining materials only.
It can go in one of your regular bag slots, but not the reagent one.

Thanks for the replies all. This is dumb though. I just flushed 7k trying to put what’s always been considered a reagent bag (I know it’s technically not now) in the reagent bag slot. Does this not seem counter-intuitive to anyone else?

They were never considered reagent bags, though. Just regular bags with a restriction.
Is there a point to them now? Nope. They effectively made them useless. Especially with how much crap gets put into your bags now, so bag space is still precious.
Honestly, there shouldn’t even be a reagent bag at all for us to buy. It should just be like the backpack, innately there. And it should be bottomless.

i made this mistake too but at least it was only a 50g engineering bag.

I’ve never heard anyone call them “regular bags with restrictions” they were mining bags or enchanting bags etc. and they were where your reagents went. So I assumed when I saw a reagent bag slot that they would go there. They got me on a technicality I guess.

The specialty gathering bags could and still can hold more than just reagents.
You could always store picks/spades/rods (fishing and enchanting) etc, elementals of the appropriate types (earth and fire in mining, living in herb, etc), and other items tied to the appropriate professions
I still prefer to have mining, herb and skinning bags on my toons with the appropriate professions. Because when I do go farming it’s usually for a few hours at a time. Between having 36 slots and the new 1k stack size, it’s a lot more efficient to not have to stop every 30 minutes to clear space.
I just wish the game would prefer the specialty bags to the reagent bag automatically.

This technicality is soooo stupid and so easy to “fix”…
But I guess that’s how we call them now.
For plenty of reasons I’m not shocked this is still a thing in 2024…
