Can we set the record straight about dragon riding?

Jesus sweet Mary of God. Trying to read this post gave me motion sickness.

Well unfortunately those that want an opt out version, yet are perfectly capable of playing the game, have jumped in with those that genuinely have a disability like motion sickness or bad hands and or fingers. Making the amount of threads and post far more bloated.

Sad, it only takes away from those with a true disability that are trying to give feedback.

You can still do vertical takeoffs and landings with DR. The mob density is also far lower than SL and prior expansions to DF so you don’t really need to hover in place either.

The wait is nearly non-existent. In the time you spend gathering, after full upgrades, your points regen really quickly both in and out of flight.

Yes, I just maxed out my DR talents today and it’s like riding superman but better, cuz it’s a dragon! Hey, even superman likes WoW so it’s perfect.

Dragonriding is super inefficient for gathering which is funny given the upgrades made to professions that require you go out and gather.

You mustn’t have been here when Nazjatar came out and we didn’t have flying at all. I’ll still take DR over that nightmare experience.

You know there is a dragon riding talent for that…

Nazjatar never should have had a unique node with such low spawn rates, but that has nothing to do with Dragonriding being inefficient.

I am genuinely confused on just what people are advocating for in these flying threads. Regular flying wasn’t going to be implemented at the start of a new expansion without players having to do a pathfinder part one and two to unlock it. Which has been the norm for an exceptionally long time.

So, then, are people just asking to have Dragon Riding removed, while waiting for pathfinder part one and two to be implemented into the expansion to work on unlocking that version of flying?

Has there been a final ruling?

I need to know if I hate dragonriding or if I love it before I start.

The nodes don’t even enter into it. It was sheer cliff drops where a single misstep was a violent splatter. The landscape was hostile to everyone without flying and gathering suffered for it.

Come back to us, you can escape the influencer matrix, come baaaa…

I’m just going to say it, dargonriding sucks. I’ve spent the last 30 mins trying to get this glyph at the top of a mountain in southern Thaldraszus. i have 6 vigor, and I’m halfway up the mountain already. I wait for my vigor to completely refresh, and my 6 vigor get me almost there to the glyph, but just shy of actually grabbing the glyph. I’ve tried using downward momentum to go upwards, but I just end up leveling out to the spot that I’m already at on this mountain side.

The downward momentum is what seems buggy to me. It’s hit or miss when it kicks in for me. Sometimes, I can point down and it immediately kicks in, and the other times, I’ll point downwards and reach almost ground level before it kicks in making it worthless.

I totally get why people hate this system. We can potentially waste more time trying to get to a spot than others depending on which direction we came from and how high we were already when starting the journey.

I’d prefer just regular flying at this point, but I get it, because regular flying makes the new content trivial for the current formula, unless development and QA puts in more work / effort.

Yet I finished them all today with little issue. Try soar now and then, it has gotten me a few of them when I’m low on vigor.

It does depend on speed when you start pointing down, if you are already close to Thrill of the skies then it wont take much downward angle to engage it. Slower of course will take a steeper angle and more time. I know some physics in WoW, you can do it.

You need the talent that causes faster regen while flying (bottom right on the tree) and then you use the three vigor sprint to momentum boost and then you flap upwards while zig zagging up and down to maintain speed as you ascend. The regen rate while flying is the most important part and I managed it with 5 points.

That’s one way of looking at it, and certainly not the only reason why they might have intetionally designed the entire expansion around a mandatory feature they knew a lot of people would find difficult. But those people can just git gud, right? They can choose not to have disabilities just as you chose not to. They can choose to be fast learners and highly talented and adapt and get over it and keep buying those tokens to support development of your content, right?

being legally blind and disabled gamer this is terrible let the kids keep their fancy new fast toys and give us old men our slow dragons that can go straight up and ddont need a 30 miles workaround to go the same distance please

You try doing this dragon flying with both your hands and wrists in braces cause of the damage to your hands and wrists …its not damn fun at all I’ll tell you …being disabled and trying to do this is killing me…I may regret buying Dragon Flight now…

Sorry for your troubles, but this is what you’re dealing with. I suggest starting with opening a ticket with your story asking for more options in the settings that might help. I don’t see them dropping DR or adding normal flight anytime soon.

Thanks for the reply, however, just so you know, I think this mechanic is buggy af, imho.

Just after I sent my last message, my game crashed while trying to fly up to this glyph. Then I proceeded to crash upon reloading 3-4 more times, until I finally got into game.

As luck would have it, suddenly my downward motion was granting me the speed I required to fly upwards again to grab the glyph.
