How is it user freedom? Your more than welcome to use WINE or something to emulate a windows x86 environment its just not supported…
Also stop acting like using linux makes you some champion for user freedom or choice, because it really doesnt. Also this “but FFXIV can do it” trope is getting old real fast, its a different game targeted towards different people and was built in an entirely different region with different requirements… Your comparing Pineapples to Grapefruit
Get away from Mint. Use Manjaro for WOW.
Not all want to recode to work in java.
Apple IOS uses swift. which lends itslef heavily to its objective c ancestor. made the app for Apple IOS…its basically made for some form of “C”.
Not all want to pay for the x-platform that does this. Like I siad above…the risk of x-platform is your business relies on this. to the point its “dangerous” when at the end of contract 1 they go here is the new price for contract 2. and its way higher.
Apple IOS has enough of the market to ensure you can not take much time to get another swift developer/option when someone gets greedy.
Runs fine for me on Proton, what’s the issue your actually having??

Who cares what anyone wants? They’re supporting a dying platform by y’all’s own standards. They want more customers, they better start supporting android. Both windows and desktop Linux can run android apps natively. I don’t care about Apple and neither do they by the looks of things. They need to be supporting the most used os, and that’s android for better or worse.
Blizzard clearly cares about it a lot more than Linux because WoW has a native ARM application that runs on Apple silicon.

They need to support android or they’re not going to be in business for very long. They don’t need to sell out to Microsoft, they need to spread out their support window. Relying on a dead platform to stay afloat is just plain stupid. By this logic of not supporting Linux due to 1.72% marketshare, they shouldn’t support Windows because it’s on a dying platform, not only that you can run Android apps on every os except maybe ios, the arguments go out the window and make even less sense under scrutiny. The excuse no longer holds water. Windows isn’t even in the top anymore, it’s in the bottom. Welcome to the little leagues. You’re one of us now. Supporting android is the future. I can run android apps on Linux mint very easily. I don’t need to be constantly spied on to do this either and neither do you.
It’s not Sunday
You’re either trolling, delusional, or perhaps all of the above.
No, I’m saying that the market share argument is moot because there’s other ways to support Linux that helps both parties. Blizzard and the end users. I then get to play on whatever platform of my choosing instead of being forced to use Windows for one game because they’re too stubborn to let go of the past.
You want blizzard to spend money on all 4 of you that use linux?

and it technically runs a Unix OS.
Mac oS is based ona Darwin unix core. stripped out a bit too. When on mac os I had to put in something called homebrew to get back the goodies of unix apple took out.
there are more. they litter wine sites with 3000 posts that you then have to filter out your flavor.
worked for me!
well it doesn’t work for me.
I am cent os, try that instead of your crap X flavor.
and thus the kindling was laid for flavor wars. these got fun. then a BSD user comes in to place BSD bait. it was usually taken and it was then you grabbed popcorn to enjoy the show.
Supporting linux is used in some cases to maintain portability of code and to stave off bad code. It’s kinda like how Microsoft lowkey has Windows ported to architectures it currently doesn’t sell licenses for.
Also, Blizzard could easily commission Feral Interactive or CodeWeavers to do the legwork for them. Former is known for game porting contract work, and the latter is the for-profit that maintain WINE.

I highly recommend just installing Steam and adding WoW as a non-steam game. It works perfectly and requires almost zero technical knowledge.

Just IMO, the work to get WoW running on MacOs+Metal+M1/M2 combined is vastly far greater than the work needed for supporting a common distro like Ubuntu on x64.
Constantly changing APIs + Proprietary API that drops some stuff still present in Vulkan/DX12 + ARM ISA port + Mobile tiled based rendering GPU. That is far far greater effort and work than a port to ubuntu that relies on PC architecture and amd/nvidia drivers still.
At this point it’s internal politics for why they won’t. They don’t have a kernel anti-cheat, so there is no blocker for it.
Yes windows is such a dying platform that it has what is it? 90% of all consumer and prosumer end machines?
Soon to be 98% of all x86_64 as older Mac’s die out.
It’s also on about 80-90% of all professional machines from engineering to content creation due to its flexibility and ease of use
30% of all computing devices connected to the internet. Desktops are a dying platform. They should port the game to Android. You’d still be able to run it on Windows 11.
Not to an appreciable degree. You’ll never get OEMs to support Linux and that’s what you need to do in order to get more games/apps.
gsstatcounter, windows makes up 28.18% while Android makes up 43.01% of all internet connected devices.
