The kernel-based ones are non-trivial to maintain and support. EAC has linux support but it’s hardly used and a trash A/C. Riot Vanguard imo is the best one but it’s Windows only.
The primary issue is this requires developers who are actively working on linux rather than compiling for it. Including knowledge of kernel.
wanting ring 0 anticheat and a uniform OS makes gaming more fair to me, imo. at the cost of all your security, but whatever, what do I have to hide?
I understand being a dev and not wanting to spend on linux ac support, it’s too negligible of a population. most of them run windows partitions anyways if they’re gamers
There’s an earnest effort into making an open source anticheat. It’s like nvk levels of complete right now. Doesn’t blizzard use their own inhouse anticheat? So why not just support vulkan and create a wine bottle of wow or a proton bottle? I just don’t understand, why when we have all these technologies available, companies still say no. It’s like there’s this contract with Microsoft or something. I just don’t get it. I guess it’s true, blizzard hates money and wants wow to die. Maybe they’re just sick of developing wow. They showed they can support Android with their games so it wouldn’t be a stretch for them to support desktop Linux with porting android binaries or creating android appimages with all the required dependencies. This is a display of laziness.
Investing in the end users ability to make decisions is key to billionaires staying billionaires. Because it’s only a matter of time before windows dies. Android runs Linux. Desktops are only like 30% of computing devices now. So if they want to make money, they better start supporting the most used kernel os in the world.
Good luck finding mine. I’m very careful of what i let online. Going to argue market share, wow should support android. It would be very trivial to install android runtime on Linux for most people. You could use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to play on your phone. Desktops are drying. Stop supporting them, they’re not the highest market share anymore.
umm, they can jsut run the game through a cross platform workflow to run on pads/tablets/phones. now. question is if there is a market.
there isn’t. too many in mobile gaming like their f2p…and drain $200 over time. games that have a full price don’t shatter sales records generally.
Works pretty good. I ahve no buyers remorse over gettting XCom for my ipad years back. Pretty solid port actually.
all its missing is mod support. Long war mod i’d have a must install mod for xcom.
I don’t see wow selling on ipad very well. at least for the people who like having 20+ keybinds lol. DH’s…could work an ipad wow. 3 button meme jsut had to be used lol.
It’s only a matter of time until the heat death of the universe.
You have a job. You have a social security number. You pay taxes. ADP/et al know your SSN, your address, your phone number, your DOB.
You want to have a little fun? Make friends with someone who works in AML/fraud and have them run you in Lexis Nexis. It’s all there, my paranoid friend.
Want some real fun? Run a dark web search.
The only thing protecting your privacy these days is the fact that everyone is exposed and there’s just so inconveniently many of us.
Given how sparse Linux support is, it’s pretty clear that there’s no money to be made in supporting Linux right now.
Blizzard isn’t a charity. If there were tons of Linux users who needed support, Blizzard would support Linux better. Companies respond to their customers’ needs.
Linux customers are a tiny fraction of people playing PC games, and Linux has a very large number of bugs and GFX issues relative to its user share. It’s expensive to support Linux and there’s very little money to be made by doing so.
That’s why Linux support isn’t great.
It’s gotten better with popular Linux products like the Steam Deck, but it’s far from obvious to me that Windows and MacOS are going away any time soon.
