Apple just switched in house CPUs from intel to in-house I bet they’re having a really fun time completely fudging that up right now.
FFXIV is in the same boat as WoW.
It runs on linux thru WINE.
It’s also very much at your own risk, with no support. Pretty much none of these companies wanna support linux in official capacity, so it stays as unofficial.
As someone w the mac client of WoW I’ve always appreciated the mac support & that makes me sad to hear
Honestly thats not true they released a steam deck client, now granted one needs proton( basically a fork of wine) for it to work but thats already In steam for Linux
I love trashing Blizzard but this one is on Apple. WoW’s continued support actually astonishes me.
That’s XIVLauncher, and that is not by Square Enix.
It’s a 3rd party open source effort to avoid using SE’s windows-only launcher.
It very much is part of the community effort to get FFXIV working on linux. SE has gone out of their way many times to break linux support with their official launcher.
Yea, I never understand apples hate for gamers
It’s a design policy.
Apple products as a whole scream “I am better than you” and as such also have the “gaming is beneath us” as a design philosophy.
This all comes from Apple placing themselves as a very premium brand and product despite the fact that their vaunted creative market share is shrinking further and further.
Sorry I was talking about final fantasy 7 should have made that clear
Its to bad honestly because the mac mini for the price was pretty dam good…performance wise… but apple does what apple does…
The GPU switch is worse, imo.
It’s no longer a forward renderer, but a tile based one. The M chips use Apple’s Imagination Inc’s PowerVR derived GPU cores.
It works and it’s officially supported. You can just download it on steam. I don’t get why blizzard hates gamers so much. You’re just not that special anymore.
XIVLauncher is not endorsed by SE, it’s by the community.
SE very much dislikes people using a launcher that isn’t theirs.
You sure do like those fallacies don’t you.
It’s on flathub and it works. I don’t care. I guess blizz lost another customer.
Design conflicts. they’d have to add better hardware and space to move some air. they like smaller and smaller and smaller each year.
the dream macbook pro that could lore me back is the 2011 15" unibody loaded with high powered gear and some nice fans to move some air to cool it. that 2011 body with todays parts would be beefy as hell.
Also user preference. I use mac to work not play games, what many say. this one confused me.
I did video editing on mac for a bit. I’d have killed for a multi nvidia cuda core (or whatever AMD call this, forget atm) “gaming” graphics card to offset cpu load and shave time off render/export.
I had a final cut pro addon that was core aware. showed me core counts even (apple hides this data quite well).
Top of the line macbook pro…1 damn core. A comparable gaming pc, even laptop, would see an AMD/nvidia card with at least 4 cores.
why you see more “gaming” pc’s in use for actual work. Beefy graphics cards can pushout nice render times too. its the side cores on the graphics cards. they help alot. Not as good as a pro video setup. but those are expensive as hell.
You can thank the community for that.
And that’s fine. I’ll be sure to do so and I’ll even donate to the project because it’s not about the money. Blizzard being anticonsumer because muh 1.7% fallacy. There would be more Linux users if we had more games and apps. If you can’t see that then you’re part of the problem with the world. Don’t just accept things in life. Those who give up freedom for convenience and safety don’t deserve freedom, safety, or convenience.
Oh I’m for linux support in all titles.
IMO, the only worthwhile showstopper is supporting an anti-cheat in official capacity.
There are enough middleware libraries to deal with and sort out everything else that it’s not a mountain to climb anymore.
There’s open source and closed source anticheat on Linux. Another nonargunent.
