Can we please fix this dead zone?

I’ve been posting about this issue on forms since the start of Legion and it’s still a thing so idk what the Devs are thinking about it. Sometimes I pop wings and use all my abilities so quickly that I sit there in wings doing nothing but auto-attacking xD Maybe they want to keep some of the nostalgia from classic rotations where the entire spec was based off auto-attacks. WHO KNOWS. Should just make the CD on CS shorter or no CD at all much like a warriors kit.

There is your answer. And I think we can ALL agree, that this intention didn’t work out. Not that we didn’t tell it a thousand times during alpha and beta. Just fell on deaf ears. Let’s hope this time around the devs are a bit more responsive and don’t sacrifice fun for the sake of design decisions.

Sure, with enough haste and the right azerite traits, the rotation is bearable and even can be fun at times (until you run in the dead zones again), but how will this look, when we will likely lose azerite at the beginning of SL and second stats will drop down again because of level increase?

Rets were doing poorly in uldir. Then they gave us an azerite trait to attempt to fix the problem, but the problem didnt come from our traits. It came from the nerf at the start of the xpac to decrease all of our abilities by 5-10% because we were doing so much damage at the end of legion with our legendaries that they thought we needed reigned in. Fast forward and it is very clear that we hit pretty limply outside of wings so they upped the proc of vop. While still ignoring the underlying issue they attempt to buff everything else but our abilities. We have gone almost the entire xpac with no real number changes to our abilities. Ret probably wont get touched save for the tail end of this xpac and then get nerfed hard again when everyone comes back in shadowlands to play ret. Leading into another xpac where ret could have started off too strong and they dont look at the bigger picture of how we play out in the entire xpac.

With how the games going to an ARPG I think it’s long past every DPS class having one no CD “filler” ability that you can spam.

Also I want Exorcism back. As cool as BoJ looks it’s silly and over the top. The only thing worse is the new Judgment animation. The old one was way better. For that matter the new Templar’s Verdict animation is pretty bad too; the one from Final Verdict (I think? It had a glowy hammer swing down with the strike) was better.

Can our no CD filler be Exorcism  a ranged filler would go a lot way for our dps uptime while swapping targets

if crusader strike had no cd it would just do even worse damage than now. and also we would just literally be reskinned rogues.

Why would you have to nerf the damage? Sure, removing the CD from CS would increase our overall dps because we wouldn’t have a dead zone any more but it wouldn’t be enough to send us to the top of the meters.

And it would not make paladins reskinned rogues. Rogues do not have an unrestricted builder ability.

A little offtopic, but I feel, animations need a workover in general not just for ret. It always bugs me, when I meet NPCs (mostly hostile) that have better animations for their spells than the player. Jainas frost spells in BoD come to mind. Recently those cool “void explosions” some mobs in the assaults do. Would fit spriest really well.

On topic: not sure how I would feel about a no-cd CS. I think I would like a cd reduction of both CS and Judgment more.

Some time ago I made a suggestion about a talent which would make CS having no cd and let it deal holy damage for the price of no longer building hopo. Would give us always a button to press which hits decently and isn’t too overpowered because of endless hopo generation.

When considering no-cd CS you need not worry about it being overpowered. Because we are looking at no-cd CS for gameplay improvements ie it would be more fun. You can always do a post change dps balance pass to bring damage back in-line. Although I wouldn’t mind a dps gain

I am willing to say they do not know, either.

I’d be fine with a no-cd no damage CS for holy.

Even if we had 0 CD on CS it wouldn’t do that much more damage to begin with, maybe an extra 1000 dps, probably even less, regular melee hits usually do double the damage of CS.

I would be more afraid about the constant influx of holy power. On the other hand I am no theorycrafter and don’t know how a no-cd CS would affect other builders (would you even use them?) and how TV would have to be balanced because of more holy power available.

The only 2 things I know for sure:

  1. Something has to happen with our rotation.
  2. The devs will either do nothing or even worsen the situation.

Sad.

Yes you would, BoJ gives 2 HP, and Judgment increases damage of you TV.

Ret isnt meant to be a played as a spammy class. Min maxing on ret is 90% what spells you use in what order. I dont have any issue with ret how it is I mained it all through uldir when haste was sparse and rarely had dead zones. If you take the time on dummies to work out where your haste is at and base that on how fast you play ret. Your rotation becomes cleaner. Spammy ret with a 50% rotation will give you even more deadzones then a slow ret with a 90% rotation (cause no ones perfect) you’ll find your pace will settle and you’ll have far less dead zones than you did while spamming what Evers up.

This is my personal opinion.

If your cs has 1 charge and its cooldown has 3 quarters to go and you blade comes up in 1s a spammy player would just hit CD instead of waiting that fraction of time to hit blade first then hit CD after it.

To be honest I could talk about this topic all day haha

Although you are right about descision making this would still be possible with higher apm.

No ability should hit for less then auto attacks it just feels bad…But here we are.

It doesn’t need “fixing.” Melee specs that don’t give you carpal tunnel syndrome are precious and few as it is. If you’re here to give your fingers a workout, there’s havoc, fury/prot, enhance, guardian, and WW.

Part of the paladin appeal is the support that it offers and using any support skill would be a guaranteed DPS loss if there were a no-CD filler.

This claim was proven wrong so many times, it’s not even funny anymore.

Pressing blessing of freedom instead of pressing a spammable damage button would be a DPS loss. That’s a fact.

Whereas now, we can press it during the natural downtime created by our priority and it will net no DPS loss. Also fact.
