well i found the discussion this morning to be rather fruitful and extremely productive.

we identified the difference between the Diablo games and the WoW MMORPG game which highlighted why it is appropriate to use account identifiers on the diablo forums and that it is appropriate to use character identifiers on the WoW forums:

regarding the Diablo forums: Your interactions ingame are all shown as a battletag without the discriminator tag (the portion starting and including the # symbol). It thus makes some sense to bind to account rather than character, as the character name is more for your side ingame than anything.

1. You have individual character names for every character in wow - your characters are identified to other players as the character name and server, not by an account identifier.

so, since the WoW MMORPG in-game character identifiers are on an individual character basis, then the wow forums should continue to use individual character identifiers.
