I make a group, but oops, one of my friends isn’t online so I list the group. 45 people sign up, I choose one based on my group comp and their run history.
someone I didn’t choose comes to the forums whining about how the mean elitist gatekept them and it’s not fair and why should they have to make a group they can’t do it because anxiety and it’s too much work and they can never get in groups because people gatekeep etc.
who is actually gatekeeping that guy?

I differ,there is always something holding people back and mainly that is other people for god know what reason in this game.
A lot of dumb words have been “invented” in the past 2 or 3 years.
I ignore every single one of them.

Anyone can get that high with that many runs.
Can you get the same rating starting from 0 last month in the season? Probably not, you will face gatekeeping, unless you make 100% your own groups and push.
I knew I was way too late to the thread to get to say this.
To show people even a clicker like myself can make it to the top.
To show them that nobody is holding them back.
I am nobody special I am just a dude with a normal job that plays WoW in his free time.
If I can pug my way to the top so can many others. Maybe not every single player because sure skill does play into it at some point.
However if my non addon, non macro, non key bind, clicking andy a$$ can get there why is any else feeling held back?

It’s so easy and you can apply it to ANYTHING without having to do annoying things like use empathy or consider what it’s like to be in somebody else’s shoes.

“Gatekeeping” isn’t that bad.
Gatekeeping does exist, and in multiple forms. Excluding qualified players from content is one form, but saying things like “REAL fans don’t like ______!” is also a form of gatekeeping in various fandoms.
While it’s certainly POSSIBLE to progress that way, it is significantly harder because people get more and more picky the higher up you go.
This part is really just personal preference for the most part.
That never stopped gatekeeping,you know that by just forming a group,there always those that once they see your stats they drop or in a meet with two guildies kick you for fun.

Words are words. Don’t get twisted over the semantics, they seemingly mean something different to everyone.
There’s boosters gatekeeping as well at higher key level. They join your group and intentionally brick your keys.
