Can Mages solo Torghast?

Yes, I’ve solod every floor so far.

I did fail a 5 earlier in the week, but I went back and had no problem. I’m not sure if I got better luck with anima, or if it was due to better gear, or both.

I tried to go in a group, and that was a huge mistake.

Its the same for hunter. many of those traits are hot garbage. Ive done a few runs where you just crap over and over and over. And the frustrating thing is, it can take a long time. Like an hour plus to work through the place. Then get to the last boss and just get destroyed. Then try again maybe a day later and its cake because you got lucky with anima powers. I just see torghast getting very old and tedious in a few weeks.

Also, if you don’t enjoy Torghast, just do the bare minimum. You get the new followers on floor four. So you can just skip floors 5 and 6. Yes you won’t get as much soul ash, but you still get quite a bit completing floor 4 and you’ll just be a bit behind on legendary crafting. If you only want a 2-3 legendaries, you won’t be that far behind others that do max torghast. And once you’re done upgrading your legendaries, you can just skip Torghast.

As Arcane I blow through Torghast, as I reach higher levels, I have to take it more slowly but it’s very rewarding. Depends on how well you understand your spec to be honest.

New followers on floor 4? You mean layer 4, or actual floor 4 of a layer?

Holy crap, does this mean I have to do another floor? I thought I could just squeak by with 3… and I quite literally did, cause I got lucky with the anima powers–that are now nerfed :frowning:

Sorry, I meant level 4 of the tower. I got two new followers last week doing four and read that you only need to do that level and that levels 5 & 6 didn’t net much other than more soul ash. Unless you want to craft as many legendaries as possible ASAP, doing the higher levels isn’t that important.

Soloing layer 7 as fire is rough goings at the moment

Did 8, it was a little rough (2 deaths on floors, 1 death on boss), but doable as Frost with 200+ ilvl. Also found out Frostchipper got nerfed pretty hard which was one of the best Frost Mage powers… Granted it was a rare power better than epic powers, but still… Grisly Icicle popped up in both my 7 fractured and 8 upper reaches which made things considerably easier. I’m not sure if I woulda beat 7 or 8 without it. And I can’t think of any other anima powers now that Frostchipper is nerfed that would be able to carry me consistently in 7’s and 8’s, but I guess we’ll see.

No, you’re not missing anything. The power is a 2000% damage bonus, the original poster her 3 of them, so 6000% damage bonus. You can’t do anything about the random powers that spawn, but when you run into the vendors, look for the RuneCloth Wrappings and purchase those so you can stack the power. Also there is another one that gives you a damage bonus for each earn you break. That one stacks up to 100, if you combine those powers, you can 1 shot a boss in some cases.

Torghast definately seems more viable now. The tragic part is there is so much of our kit that anima powers dont touch.

Do we need 4 different poly morph powers? Why not give us interesting things with spell steal for example. Fire mage has NOTHING that touches pyroblast for example. Why? Its not uncommon for me to see with proper stack farming fireball doing more damage than a pyro. This creates weird situations where it seems combustion rotation is almost a dps loss.

I haven’t read all the comments, but the ones I’ve read only talk about lvl 3 (or below). I cleared level 4 a few days ago but it was really hard. Anyone successfully completed lvl 5 or above solo? If so, what was your ilvl and how difficult did you find it? P.S. I ran all of them as fire.

I’ve soloed Twisting Corridors Layer 8 (so essentially 144 Floors at 18 Floors per Layer)—I also have done all 6 Wings at Layer 8 with the 6 Floors per Layer (Normal Torghast).

I think I was 206ish maybe 208. I did it as Arcane (without an Arcane Legendary)—I used my Fevered Incantation one until around Twisting Corridors Layer 4, went and crafted Triune Ward Rank 2 (not for Torghast specifically, wanted to have it for PvP) and used it for my repeat Layer 4 and then Layers 5-8 as well.

I didn’t find it too hard. I wiped on Layer 4 of Twisting. My wipe was because early on in the run I got a power increasing my damage by 15% per Floor. I was like “omg this is so OP!” However, I didn’t read that it also decreased my overall health by 5% per Floor . . . So I get to Floor 17 and haven’t had any deaths, then bam, I started getting 1 shot. I eventually looked and saw that I had like 7k overall health haha—read my anima powers and quickly realized that I had pretty much given myself a 75% health decrease. Other than that sad failure of a run (wiping five times, on floor seventeen, one floor away from the boss because of a stupid choice in anima power kind of sucked) and little slip up I didn’t have much trouble.

I find Arcane the best for Torghast because it hits rather hard outside of CD’s (well in the context of Torghast), and Anima Powers really only enhance this. I kind of had a priority system in terms of Anima Powers for Twisting that I’m happy to share in more detail if other Mages want it.

In general, I’m sure it can be done by all Mage Specs. I mained Arcane for a long time (although I have been raiding as Fire since 8.3 now); however, I’m intimately familiar with Arcane and its kit . . . so I personally find it easy to complete the runs with (and yes they do have boss cheesing Anima Powers, but I’ve done runs without them before and still had no issues).

Don’t mistake my personal spec preference for Torghast as saying that Arcane is better than Fire or Frost at Torghast; for Mages, success in Torghast is probably more about an individual’s comfort, knowledge, and playstyle with the spec than it is about the specs themselves.

With that said, don’t think you are tied to just one spec either because of legendaries and covenant for Torghast. I didn’t craft my first legendary until December 16th—and that legendary was Fevered Incantation for Fire. Only recently (last week) did I craft my second legendary, a Rank 2 Triune Ward. I have yet to craft an Arcane Legendary; but, I’ve done all of Torghast as Arcane.

Also, I have never found Torghast that difficult, funny enough I think I have a few posts in this thread from early on (I think I was maybe in the lower-mid 180’s in this post).

(December ‘20)

It legitimately bothered me to see Mages crying about Torghast early on, it’s never been problematic in my opinion. It just takes Mages a bit longer and having to play smarter than other classes at times (just my opinion).

I solo completed Layer 8 at ilvl 168 after the nerfs on a mage alt (fire spec at the time), and Layer 8 at like 190ish prior to the nerfs on this character (frost spec at the time).

Unless you are talking about Twisting Cooridors, and not normal torghast, in which I did through layer 8 solo on this character in Fire yesterday at 209 ilvl.

Yes 100%. Completed all layers on all wings. Including the 18th floor on Corridors. Never had a problem being unable to complete.

See I’ve had this and don’t think its a problem if you can hit the Triwards and Increased barrier health. 7k hp doesn’t seem like much but if you have a 250k absorb it doesn’t really matter what your hp is under it.

I’ve solo’d up to layer 5 now and it can be spicy with enemy damage output but there are a few ways to mitigate it (The obscuring mists aura is amazingly undervalued).

Been doing them as arcane and enjoying seeing how high I can get my arcane blast damage to. So far I’ve had it hit for 7.8 mil on the final boss of layer 4, just wish it had crit :frowning:

This…play the game with the tools the Devs put into it. Sometimes they got it right-ish.

When you go against a pack of four mobs it’s difficult to outdamage them before they one shot you at 7k health, even with the absorbs. It was legitimately a game of could I one shot the mob before it could hit me. Personally did not find the power worth it. If you do that’s cool—don’t really care as I’m not looking for advice on how to complete something I’ve already done.

I solo layer 8s as a Frost mage not that hard.

Fire Here. Got to 5 on each one, Now a bit more geared going for more… If you get the Barrier ones, your gold… The one that makes your Mirror images smart is freaking IWIN button.

The Highly Polished Mirror is pretty amazing, but they can still get one shot. Which, blows when they are on a 2 minute cool down.

I think they should give them as much HP as the mage in Torghast.
