Can I Heal as a Casual?

Healing is very desired and fun enough to PuG up to maybe M12… after that peeps start to get meta snobbish and my rsham has had a hard time just getting invites to M15s even when my IO is better than those doing the inviting

rdruid is meta now, rdruid will be meta in SL… if you have no objection to rdruid, then that’s the best pick by far

First few months of xpac will be tough because you and everyone you’re healing won’t know wtf they’re doing. Healing is actually the easiest role

You’d probably enjoy healing on a priest more than a paladin, if your main focus is dungeons (specifically pre-100 content).

If you include the dps requirement of healers, healing is, the, hardest, to, play.

No, it isn’t. The “dps requirements” that you mention is the damage that the healer is capable of dealing during downtime, as player skill increases the downtime becomes longer because your DPS are smart enough to avoid damage.
DPS roles have no such thing as downtime.

Tank: Watch the floor, watch the mob targets, watch the mob casting, position the mob, dps.

DPS: Watch the floor, watch the mob casting, rotate cooldowns dps.

Healer: Watch the floor, watch the mob casting, watch the party, watch the mob target, watch your mana, watch tank cooldowns, dps and finally rotate your healing, dps, and trinket cooldowns.

I wonder!

Thanks everyone! It looks like I’ll be leveling a few healers once the pre-patch hits. I’m looking forward to this. I checked out Vuhdo and it was a bit overwhelming. Can I manage ok with the default raidframes and Clique?

Or, to put it another way, what help does Vuhdo provide that Clique doesn’t?

Thanks!

I’d recommend leveling a healer, at least part way, just by spamming LFD from level 15 to 85 or so - lets you get use to the basics and gives a good feel for all the stupidity you might encounter ay higher levels, without too many buttons to press. Queues are generally 5 minutes or so, so its not like your sitting around long and the time in-between gives a chance to fiddle with your UI or do some gathering or whatever…

ps, im kind of in the same casual boat, and pretty much just heal now.

Tanks are like healers, they both get screwed over by dumb dps. Since they usually aggro things, or don’t pay attention to mechanics. The success of the dungeon usually falls on both tanks and healers, on how good they can recover from dps mistakes. Also bad healers can kill a party, as well as tanks that pull more than they should.

Tanks call out interrupts lol. Dps apm isn’t difficult to stare at weakaura popups

Thats the argument. At higher levels of play DPS don’t (or can’t because it would 1 shot) make the same mistakes of inexperienced DPS, making the job of a Healer easier.

Healers have a lot more downtown, because DPS have none- an example of this is how strong RDruid are in M+. Even though Warlocks and DKs have Battle Ress abilities, it’s best on an RDruid because they are a Healer and can afford to waste or sit on a GCD. DPS don’t have that same luxury.

I feel like healing is harder. Just because you have a much tighter mess up window compared to dps and such.

You would be surprised how many dps play like npc’s. Hate IO or not, I can’t blame people for using it. I have tanked on my pally a bunch of +12, and I was just grinding my teeth when I saw a giant mob coming, or people not paying attention to affixes. However, it did make me a better dps, because I started becoming aware of all that, makes +15 ez

For casual healing, you don’t need any add ons. I just use the default interface. If I were to add anything, I would first add mouseover macros; clique may make that easier.

Healing is the easiest role with a good group.

Tanks have to know routes for different weeks, snap points, and most affixes modify positioning/kiting or CD usage for tanks. If you have that knowledge, it’s very easy.

DPS is the hardest role. Eventually, you have to have perfect stats, decent weapons, the right spec, etc just to pull “normal dps”.

Yes. Be proficient in all of your paladin specs. I prefer hybrid specs for this reason. You can heal and tank fine as a casual, as you will be doing casual content.
