Can anyone explain the relation between Anima (x2), Life, Light, Death, and Void?

Hmm interesting.

If decay is the 6th element and is void affiliated than that should make it the opposite of spirit, right?

According to chronicles, life/spirit is tied to the light. So the dichotomy of Spirit/Light versus Decay/Void works. That also means death wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to Light/Life then.

That does fit together nicely.

I still think there should be more of a separation between Death and Undeath. The undead upset the natural balance of life and death. It would account for why the Light counters the undead and why Void seems to be related to the creation of the Undead. Undeath upsets the mechanism of death too.

The Necrolords of Maldraxxus are Undead and don’t upset the Balance of Life and Death.

Of course both Fel and Void have worked with Maldraxxus’s Death Magic as shown by the Scourge and the Exile’s Reach Ogres.

The Light believes in having none of it’s Champions(like that Paladin the Naaru saved in Icecrown) taste Death but live in it’s so-called everlasting paradise so Light is straight up opposed to Death just as much as it’s opposed to Void/Shadow.

Calia and Lightforged Undead are the only instances where a source of Light is not opposed to Death Magic with Calia’s case being a Naaru personally aiding in it and the Lightforged’s case resulting from Xe’ra the Naaru whom they were tied to being too dead to interfere.

Maldraxxus is especially confusing because it seems like it is a double retcon. Chronicles mentions the Undead as being between life and death and the shadowlands as a place of death. So it is strange to have Undead in the shadowlands, the place of death.

Maybe a way to reconcile it is to have the presence of Undead outside of the Shadowlands being an affront to nature.

Furthermore, the description of the shadowlands in chronicles is another major retcon. Bastion and Ardenweald are too pleasant in terms of appearance according to Chronicles. Interestingly enough, chronicles even states that there are other potential afterlives besides the shadowlands.

What do you make of the light being allied with death then? I’m not sure if I buy into it entirely, but the narrative makes it seem that they aren’t at odds with one another.

The Lightspawn(a Light Elemental) in Exile’s Reach calls Death Magic “foul magics” so Light in general is opposed to Death with the only known exception being S’aara who had Faol help save her from being a Void God.

Just as Void Energies from each Old God are bound directly to said Old God and becomes aimless once the Old God is killed the Light of each Naaru is probably bound to said Naaru with said Naaru deciding how their Light reacts to the other Cosmic Forces.

What do I mean when I say the Void Energies of an Old God becomes aimless the second the Old God dies? The Sha became aimless when Y’Shaarj died and the Whispers of N’Zoth stopped coming to those who received his gift when he died.

The Void tied to a fallen Naaru(who have an apparent link to the Void Lords) of course didn’t silence it’s Whispers when N’Zoth died but his death allowed new Whispers(from the Void Lords themselves) to take his place as Alleria can attest.

If the Naaru are Light’s counterparts to the Old Gods then their Light works the way they want it to including whether or not they side with Death.

Do you think the “Light made an ally with the enemy of all” isn’t referring to death then? Just more void lies?

Or is it a particular agent of the light that made some pact?

Azshara is referred to as the Light of Lights, the Light of the Moon, the Light of a Thousand Moons and the Light Beneath the Tides and she struck a bargain with Sylvanas who N’Zoth says seeks the end of all things and all realities.

N’Zoth never actually says anything about Death and the Twilight’s Hammer even say Death is a gift so Death is not the enemy of all.

That is fair. There are many ways it can be interpreted.
Moral of the story, don’t take what the void says at face value.

The relation is that Blizzard needed a new “dark” magical energy and couldn’t be bothered to use one of the two it already had, so they pulled one out of their ***.
