Regardless, the point still stands. A “nobody” like the Black Bride is a blank page that only needs some constructive attention from the devs and voila!! Better racial leader than either Voss or Calia (anything is better than Calia tbqh).
Much easier to work with than rando wtf character whose design is completely at odds with the rest of the race it must represent.
They aren’t though, the raid cinematics are only revealed the day Normal and Heroic start which is July 6th. Blizzard posts them shortly after the first guilds finish the raid (which is always same-day). I’ve never seen a raid cinematic datamined earlier than the raid released.
I think this is perhaps what would make her a good character. She just has to spend more time explaining how and why she feels responsible for them now. She’d be a reluctant hero who would overcome her ingrained prejudices to lead her people.
Which is far better than Sylvanas ever was no offense. Yeah she’s cool and edgy but she never really represented the forsaken well imo. Also the forsaken having a monarchy is stupid, they’d be better off with a council or an elected leader.
And again they just have to explain how she got to that position but she is a much better representative of what its like to “be forsaken” literally by her own father, than Sylvanas, who really wasn’t forsaken by anyone.
I know this is pretty pedantic of me but strictly speaking, I don’t think the forsaken have a leader right now. Lilian Voss is vocal about not wanting to lead. While it’s true that that tends to be a trope about such people being the perfect choice for having responsibility thrust on them, she went the extra step to announce that she thinks there’s someone better (Calia) and her role in Shadow’s Rising was dragging Calia around to groom her for taking over.
I think Lilian’s problem is that Blizzard leapfrogged the part of her story where she actually joins the forsaken after all. She’s just apart from the faction one moment, then on Sylvanas’s ship the second and I remember being “when the hell did that happen?” Same with Garona. And to a lesser extent, Rexxar.
It was a weird situation where a good chunk of your supporting cast as horde barely identify with the damn faction and shouldn’t want to be around you.
This is a good point. The Council was eager to embrace Calia and Voss as nominal leaders, and the recently-undead like Derek and Delaryn seem to follow them, but whether Calia or Voss have any meaningful authority over the Forsaken at large remains to be seen. It’s also unclear if the Forsaken even have a functioning government at this point, or if the few remaining holdouts in Lordaeron are basically just operating in semi-anarchy.
You know, not only Sylvanas fans are hating Calia right? I am one example.
Also, why would this be surprising to you? Why is such a unfunny thing funny to you? Why are you even joking about it?
Sylvanas fans and a lot of other Horde fans hated what this one book did to Foraskan society.
For those players this is worse than it would be for you to lose Genn and to get let’s say… would get Tess as a new leader, but as a blight oozing undead. Why? Because Genn is a lot younger and you had less time with him over the years. Tess however would be a mockery of the Worgen in this case.
It’s the same with Calia. You are also wrong about Forsaken characters, there are Forsaken characters, but of course not as well known to non Forsaken players. It’s quite a distasteful jab from you with your unfunny “simp” joke and you should stop it entirely. You are smarter than that.
Strictly speaking this is incorrect. The Grand Executor is the default leader of the Forsaken. He commands the civil and military administration through the Deathguard. Another major group within forsaken is the Royal Apothecary Society. They wield considerable political and apparently judicial authority within the society. Add to this the Queensguard.
No outsider can reasonably just walk in off the streets and start giving orders to these organizations and expect to be taken seriously. In all likely hood they probably have their own ideas of of what the Forsaken should next.
Another thing that’s true of Blizzard is that while a single author or team of authors often drives the overall vision for a story, no one person owns or controls the final product…
Problems of scaling and quality of this approach aside, for sure she has some impact on themes and priorities in the story.
In Before the Storm she said that she did not think before calling for the forsaken to join the defectors.
In the Shadowlands pre-patch she said “I do not blame Anduin for what happened [during the Gathering]”. Which is… an interesting idea, given who actually acted not in a clever way to put it litely.
One of missed opportunities: exploring the “older times” with Whitemane and search for Terenas.
While anything is possible, one of several problems with Calia is in the story of Southshore. In the currently available backstory, the town was fine during the 3rd war, and the 1st time it was seriously damaged was also the last one.
These devs - true. But I do not see any principle limitation within the toolkit itself that does not allow to explore somewhat better storylines.
This seems like it could be in fact a larger problem. Not one person writing about mainly one topic (faction, or whatever), this can be ok. But there has to be something pulling all those strings together. You can’t let some writers run wild with a part of the story, without considering the rest of the story. You also really need a lore foundation, for other writers they can build uppon it.
Well, not necessary. There are other things that could be a reason for them to feel bad on top of that, and probably more to come.
Conceptually there is as much time as necessary. It’s a matter of using this time for better or for what we get currently.
I guess you do not appreciate the finer details of pre-cata stories.
She was “not alliance” to have an excuse for why she was killed and that was not considered an act of agression against the alliance during the Gathering.
Currently she is like Valeera, “belong to neither”, or so the devs want to say.
That is an interesting statement from a PoV of originall forsaken and how they came to be alongside Sylvanas.
Thing is, the name was never mentioned. I originally thought that Nathanos would even fit the role. Not quite sure currently, but it’s IMO plausible.
A sizeable part of lore enthusiasts - yes. Blizz - does not look like it IMO.
There are also other odd takes in that articles.
Edit: from a recent interview
But, the specific details of the twists and turns the story is going to take, who the bosses in the Raid are, even some of the major narrative moments that we’re going to see play out in the coming weeks are things that came together at the end of last year, and the beginning of this year.
So, yeah. Everything is planned in advance. Like 2 expansions planned.
She sayd the she is not in the pre-patch. It’s one of pre-patch problems: as they are not available, there is only Darion’s comment that there are “leaders” at the ICC, and the Calia’s answer is not available.
