A friend wants to gift me battle.net currency but he is in Canada… How do we do this?

You can only gift Balance to a friend that uses your same currency

Though you could probably have your friend buy some bnet cards online, email the codes to you, it just would not work via the online gift system.

I recall someone a while back saying they couldn’t buy US balance from Canada even through amazon, but I’m not sure if it was the same situation exactly, so worth a try. (Also as I recall that person was highly frustrated for other reasons and I’m not sure they had ever calmed down enough to try it properly. “So mad you can’t see straight” isn’t a state of mind conducive to problem solving.)
