How would you go about fixing Ret, prot paladin, spriest, balance, enh/ele with 2 abilities/spells only?
Give us the TBC version of talent trees and core abilities.
~done~
It would probably be closer to what SoD was than Anniversary. You would need a lot of fresh stuff nobody has seen before to get the numbers worth putting money and time into it.
Besides, balancing specs so that everything is as good as something else is not achievable. There will always be something that is better than the other things in an RPG type of game.
Gotta give them the mana return talents or bake them into an ability to make them viable.
Also you forgot Shaman.
i love how they “fixed” balance by making wrath free and a ridiculous instant cast nuke with 6 second cooldown
Oh thanks. I knew I would forget one.
Ret : Give it Crusader Strike as a new 31 point who now applies Nightfall’s debuff and group-wide mana regen. Give them a talent that turns their autos into Holy Damage ignoring Armor and resists.
Prot Pally : Give it a taunt and group-wide mana-regen, buff its survivability to be a viable main tank option.
Ele : Delete Elemental Mastery, replace it by Totem of Wrath for its 31 point (As a Fire Totem) as a form of Caster “WF”. Buff Flame Shock to help its sustained dps in PvE. Merge Magma and Fire Nova totems (basically Fire Nova totem leaves behind a Flamestrike), Searing Totem now refreshes Flame Shock and does more damage to target afflicted by Flame Shock. Flametongue Weapon/Totem are now Spell Power buffs. Reduce spell mana costs.
Enhance : Give it a taunt so it can double as an offtank if built for it (like Feral), Buff Stormstrike to basically apply Nightfall’s debuff allowing enhance players to use something else, reduce spells mana cost. Every totem changes mentioned in the ele part also apply.
Spriest : Give them their mana-battery role from BC and maybe increase their passive group healing. Devouring Plague baseline for all Priests (Undeads get the super-plague or something).
Balance : Buff their mana Regen/Reduce their Mana Costs, severely buff Hurricane for Boomkin only, Buff Moonkin Aura.
Feral : Buff their Energy Regen in Cat and remove MCP from the game.
Hunters : Add stat scaling to pets and improve the damage scaling of all their abilities. Rework the Surv Tree to function as a melee spec with offtanking as an option if built for it through a talent that make their offhand function as a shield (basically 2h Surv = DPS, dual wield = tank). Give it a taunt near the end of the tree and add Lacerate back as its 31 point (in place of Wyvern Sting, its redundant) but this time it does noticeable damage.
Warlocks : Get Soul Shatter as a 3 mins cd
Mages : Gets Invis on the same CD as Soul Shatter and only lasts 5 seconds. Sheep duration capped at 8 seconds.
Rogue : Sap duration capped at 10 seconds.
Warriors : No changes needed.
Extra : Buff raid boss healthpools by a significant amount to compensate the powercreep, also buff their damage so shieldless Warriors get pounded into the dirt
Vanilla/BC has more than enough mechanical levers available to it to be able to rebalance the game without going into silly territories.
Heck just look at certain items people feel are mandatory in Classic, example MCP and Nightfall.
Add these to Ferals, Ret and Enhance and you already made a positive balance change to the game without changing it at its core or investing basically anything.
How about a flat 15% damage decrease? And maybe a removal of the flask set interaction, because that’s completely busted.
Would have to see where they sit damage wise considering all my other suggestion changes specifically buffs magic damage.
Flask interaction is a good point and is on the same level of jank as MCP and Nightfall. Warrior players can literally bone themselves if they don’t pick it while levelling up because they don’t know about it, so def something that could get axed.
For rogues, I’d probably add stun removal on the PvP trinket instead of charm removal, because rogue vs rogue is really boring, if you don’t have living action potion. And those things are worth like 12g. So, not really an option for most. XD
Trinket should just function like it does in BC and work on all CC.
I love posts like these because inevitably everyone forgets pvp is a part of the game and so 90% of the suggestions just completely ruin all pvp.
Like giving ret crusader strike as a fix. Sure, lets give a class known for randomly deleting players in pvp consistent damage.
Almost all my changes are directly aimed at PvE, a few would shake up PvP but its not like Vanilla PvP is remotely balanced anyway.
It’s way better balanced than people realize because the majority of players that “pvp” aren’t good at it. What a shocker when a huge audience rolls mage and still can’t beat warriors.
Heck you suggested giving spriest another damage source. They’re already one of the strongest solo pvp specs.
Dude i’m pretty decent at it, so decent that in 3 key press i can delete anyone i want as Ele. Thats called balance.
Vanilla PvP is for the memes. Some other specs having fun than Warrior Ele or Mage wouldn’t be a crime.
Warrior isn’t a good pvp class. It’s good at a specific role. Mage rogue and lock are the best pvp classes. ele and spriest are strong specs. Arms warrior is a strong priority target killer but needs support to keep it not just in the fight but on a target.
If you want to see what happens when you throw stuff at the board without considering it’s implications all for the sake of pve “balance”, look no further than sod.
Devouring Plague is already in the game lol. Wasn’t aware Undead Spriests were what was ruining it all, i thought it was the 50 second sheeps and 40 second saps.
Long sheeps/saps aren’t ruining the game. You wanna know what makes mage op? Frostbite. RNG proc root for being hit by a chill effect. That means even hitting a mage can root you.
Your Warrior bias is showing. Yes Frost Mage hardcounter you, thank god something does since free R14 gear means any joe shmo Warrior 3shots everyone it reaches.
SoD decided that bringing Wrath and further mechanics into vanilla was a good idea. Turns out it wasn’t. Literally nothing i said goes further than BC mechanically.
