By making loot scarce, the game now is more focused on loot

Yes, they should really mail us mythic raid loot. WoD garrison table had it right.

Started Castle Nathria on Normal in 170 ilevel. Ended it with 179.

I can safely say - item level is VERY important. It was taking all my personal abilities to stay alive. You don’t have the same health pool and safe-gap as someone higher item-level.

Before you say I was carried - I was keeping up with everyone else in damage.

Quite a few players got used to overgearing everything from the jump, which was possible due to how titanforging worked.

That essentially meant that normal and heroic raids were not being done at the intended difficulty. Even mythic was impacted at times, though the dynamic is different at that level.

The way Shadowlands works is more or less how the game always worked before war/titanforging was added. Dps checks are not completely trivial, mechanics are actually dangerous, etc.

In BfA, normal and heroic raids didn’t actually have dps checks because the dps requirements were trivial to meet.

But what you describe in the OP is the whole point of a dps check, meaning: you might simply not be ready for it as a group. You might need to gear up/get better, and come back the following week to try again.

Still doesn’t acct for the fact Normal Raids now only drop 3 pieces for 30 people…

That isn’t any different than the past. ICC 25 Only dropped 3 pieces per boss, as well.

BFA also released with every raid tier a bunch of Op garbage, Corruption, essences, Benethic gear, unbalanced Azerite traits. So thats a skewed result, Legion was the same way with leggos and weapons, so thats skewed result as well…

As for past expansions, it was Heroic Dungeons into Raiding, that really wasn’t the case in SL. Then we can point out the complexity of todays raids vs then as well… Lots of factors you are leaving out…

This is the arrogant attitude that is ruining the game 0 ya great for you playing in a content pushing guild. Selfish to say screw anybody else who doesnt play the game the same as you.

The game has never been made JUST for raiders until now … and that’s why so many players are mad and quitting.

You’re right that my post simplified things somewhat, but having a spammable source of gear in mythic+, combined with the possibility of war/titanforging, was the primary factor.

This was especially clear in heroic raids. This difficulty is supposed to be a significant challenge for a typical casual raid group. In BfA, by the time those raid groups got to heroic, there were frequently no actual upgrades in the instance, or very few.

That’s the opposite of how gearing typically works.

What we have in Shadowlands is just a return to something closer to how gearing should work, meaning that a typical group will probably have to farm normal mode or equivalent for a little while before they are ready for heroic.

An didn’t they bump the drops after that to more then double that for every expansion after that…

100 percent that. The only ones defending this are the no lifers that raid every day and do mythic + 15 or something, I think they all just like the idea that they are getting gear and more casual people aren’t. The elitists don’t like non raiders getting purple gear because they don’t feel so cool then. When the matter of the fact is no one cares what gear they have or what boss they downed. This is meant to be a game not a job.

The guy is just a no lifer, probably sits on unemployment benefits so can play all day long. I bet you they will say something stupid though like they always do (people like him) “I actually work 70 hours a week, play club football have a wife and 8 kids and go running every day” yet they still have 10 hours a day to play wow and raid 4 hours a night lmao

Well I’m a no lifer too. But that attitude is just toxic.

This really has nothing to do with whether or not the content will be accessible to casual players.

There’s no need for a typical raid group to outgear heroic difficulty before they even enter the place.

That doesn’t mean that a casual group won’t be able to clear heroic. It just means that there will be a more gradual progression.

Not until later. Also irrelevant. This is what they wanted to get back to with loot. So it’s the old droprates, plus you get the vault and M+ and weeklies.

Not speaking for all guilds but my guild was pretty much anti M+, so 99% of us were basically going into raids with gear acquired from the previous raids. Of course that changed a bit with the 8.3 corruption system, then we saw more people doing them then in the other tiers combined.

Problem is the last 2 expansions were overloaded with player power from the start so trying to compare them with SL is pointless, you’d have to go to WoD at least to draw a comparison.

Yeah, although Shadowlands still has more reliable gear sources than pre-Legion expansions did.

Mythic+ is not what it was when end-of-dungeon loot was more plentiful and could titanforge, but it’s still pretty good.

And the vault is fantastic compared to the weekly chest, let alone anything that existed previously.

Back in Pandaria or Catalclysm, if anyone had suggested that there would be a selection of 3-6 or even up to 9 pieces of loot waiting for you when you log in each week, so that you could select the best option, they probably would have been laughed at or accused of being delusional.

That’s how good it is.

And I think the whole gearing system is better without the random upgrades.

They saw how Classic continued to crush IONS failed retail experience in every metric and figured thats what those people on Classic wanted back in retail.

This is just more desperation for Ion and its backfiring on him like the last 2 expansions…

I don’t see an issue with upping the droprate by a couple pieces per boss in raids. One more piece per M+ end chest. It’s a little something more but not too much to keep the basis of their design.

and now the servers are dead with only elites around who require a world buff to do a dungeon.

Keep using that response all you want it doesn’t change a thing.
