By far my favorite take on Covenant abilities

What choices could you never change at any point in wow? Even in vanilla you could pay for talent swap.

The only choice that matters is class and to a lesser extent spec.

This feels the equivalent of if i pick a belf pally and dont have consecrate becuase its only a human pally ability. Thatd be asinine. But whoop gotta differentiate i guess

Exactly. Now we’re getting some added rpg elements in an rpg.

which MMORPG more successful than WoW uses that model in their game that has you so excited for more permanent decisions?

I wasn’t aware I made a comment about another game.

you said RPG elements

role playing game

which game has these elements, and why is it better than WoW?

I sure did.

So now we’re getting some elements that add to the RPG part of this mmoRPG.

I made exactly zero comments about any other game though.

Do you think Blizzard might be forced to balance talents better if they weren’t able to safely ignore them as long as there’s at least one viable option per row?

You shouldn’t have to choose a covenant for a skill Covenants should have a “flavored” version of every skill, then you choose one of the SKILLS to lock in, on top of your covenant choice.

The idea of locking skills to covenants is flawed because the most important thing to most is gameplay, as you’ll be doing that most of the time, so which skill you like will overrule which covenant you like the most thematically, and that’s just depressing.

Correction an mmorpg. The problem is the first three letters. People rank and get rated by the others in the tribe. Locking skills goes against human nature with that ranking. Its nice to believe that people will shrug and not care but whats history say? Whats the 80/20 rule gonna be.

You make a perm choice that makes you under perform. Then RIP. It’s punishing, let alone blizz has to make an adjustment that makes your choice worse or better

Remember when blizzard did an awesome job with Essences, as you so clearly said yourself, they will never be made account wide as the system is so good!

Hold up

but how can they be elements of an RPG if you can’t even list the game they’re in? that would mean they’re entirely new and not at all native to the RPG genre

i think you’ve talked yourself into a circle

nah, I’d rather not.

I knew it, so easy to trigger

I think putting any sort of ability into the talent trees is a mistake. Talents, in my opinion, should only augment our existing spellbook. Not create it.

You call that triggered? Yikes.

it won’t stop

I made a thread that covenants should act like essences where you have access to all baseline abilities but you rank up the covenant you choose so you have ability perks others in other covenants dont have with said ability

Keeps player agency
Doesnt lock ppl out of abilities

I think its the best of both with whats going on.

What won’t stop?

Can you stop spamming my thread, you’re sullying the good word of Ralph. His quote in the OP is perfection.

Yea this would be good unironically

You are back to square one like Essences since it’s super alt unfriendly but it’s a start. Would open up the system to be made account wide similarly to essences in 9.2 or something.

Great idea!
