I love how the first legendary bow drop in TBC went to a rogue. It was the ultimate revenge on us hunters.

If you thought the average hunter was bad in vanilla, wait until Classic when most hunters never knew about mana management, keeping pets happy, leveling pets, building pet loyalty, having to switch pets at stable masters which were generally limited to major cities and towns, only being able to store two pets, not being able to trap in combat, having to actively control what your pet does, stocking ammunition, finding pet food that your species of pet will actually eat, and every other difference but all think they know how to play a hunter.

Even now, there are a ton of terrible hunters on private servers.
And Classic will have some population of players who never played pre-Cata and, of that population, don’t care to educate themselves about how to play the class. Some will, of course, but a lot won’t.

I myself keep going around in circles between what I will main in Classic: hunter, warlock, mage. Of the three, I find hunter the most fun to play by far, but I was worrying that I’ll fall short at level cap and not be able to raid. The more I know and see, though, is that just being a competent hunter might be enough to set me apart from the crowd.

I wouldn’t worry about a raid spot, there’s ALWAYS a slot for an intelligent hunter or two.

In my Vanilla guild, we never cleared higher than AQ20 and ZG20. The hunters were total jerks to each other over who should get the first Zin’rokh that dropped from Hakkar. Our guild leadership got so sick of it that they gave it to my Arms warrior, rationalizing it by saying “All you guys do is moan and groan about who gets what gear. All he does is show up on time and off-tank whenever we need him to and all he’s ever gotten for gear is off-tank stuff. Time to give him a big 2H.”

Three hunters immediately quit the guild. It was amazing.

I’m just going to roll need on what I feel I actually do need. Sorry. Intellect is itemized on some hunter gear / shammy gear. (Of the falcon gear for example). It also depends on where you put your talent points. Of course we won’t have the shammy issue for a bit

I remember arguments over that particular weapon because, despite its tanking itemization, its DPS was so high that some hunters just flat-out didn’t care. I was not one such hunter, but I was in a guild with one. She got her rifle in a pug group. I never asked if she rolled against a tank to get it.

we actually had a hunter argue that Thunderfury was a hunter weapon each of the first 7 times a new binding dropped…
(for those who want to know, the first 4 went to people who had the potential to tank, 5th to a rogue, 6th and 7th to other potential tanks).
by the time the 8th one dropped he had left the guild because it wasn’t fair that a hunter had never gotten a TF…

we had our ranged weapon as a primary so you grabbed whatever stat sticked dropped. don’t blame the playa, blame the game
