Building in Azeroth: A First Look at Housing

There should be some neighborhoods that have HoA to keep out the riffraff

Everything in the shop is available for in-game gold (via blizzbucks from tokens) so I’d rather it be there than hidden behind PvP or M+. Of course avaliable BOTH ways would be preferable. :see_no_evil::hear_no_evil::speak_no_evil:

Multiple areas are ripe for future housing districts: recent NE area in DF, Gilneas, Forbidden Reach is possible but a bit of a stretch.

A nearly forgotten area to consider as well is the Dreanei zones themselves, they did say they are planning a huge shattrath city similar rebuild too from the crash.

Do not look directly into the mankini!

I just hope we don’t have to push keys in order to get housing decos. Please don’t make this a thing, Blizz.

I am sure there will be -some- deco tied to keys and raiding.

I think this could be a super neat feature but I had some ideas I wanted to contribute! I think what people don’t realize is the importance of ‘see and be seen’ in wow. Why else would we spend so much time getting all the t-mogs and mounts? Why else would most players congregate in one area of the main cities?
So my thought is have the neighborhoods as more of a Shard than an Instance right off the main city (ideally no portal, no loading screen).

Public neighborhoods are actually public and any player can get there without having to be invited or in a party. So that way you never know who’s neighborhood your going into and could see some spectacular houses you didn’t know were there. Maybe there is a way of tracking public neighborhood Shards so you can always go back to your favorites.
Private neighborhoods are the ones for communities or guilds where you need to be a member or be invited.
And maybe there is some provision for solo private houses for the hermits

I don’t necessarily see the appeal of housing in an MMO RPG. I want to be around other players. Not by myself.

Oh no, you have to earn things for housing.

and what rewards have you earned to be displayed?

I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I do not understand why this becomes a feature after TWENTY years? Just my two cents. Moving on.

“while it’s not possible for your Human character to buy a house in the Horde zone, your Troll character in the same Warband can, and then your Human can use it as if it were their own.” - So what’s the purpose of separating it in the first place? There’s literally no point. People will just use alts to buy homes and then use their Main from the other faction all the time? I understand that the Alliance and Horde are basically pals now, So why pretend there are factions at all anymore? They don’t FUNCTION as if there are two factions fighting each other.

A couple questions here:

  • How will property taxes be assessed? Is it based on size of the lot or number of doors on the house?
  • What sort of public services will be offered for the neighborhoods (fire depts, law enforcement, medical)
  • Is there a billpay app or do I need to write a check? Is there a processing fee?
  • Are there going to be different store options? Some of us can only afford IKEA while others prefer a more luxurious experience, money is no option.

Some of you need to calm down. You are thinking way too much, too hard about things that probably don’t matter. We haven’t had housing, it will be a fad and many of us will move on. You don’t log on to play a variant of The Sims.

Looks good…though get the odd feeling this might be more costly than expected…

I understand it, but no one does it correctly. The problem HERE is that the game has been out for 20 years and there’s almost no social aspect to it anymore. I’ve been playing retail again for a couple months and I’m doing Raid content with randos every week that I don’t think I’ve said two words to.

To me, the MMO that got the housing the BEST so far was Star Wars Galaxies. However, that got to be too much of a free for all because there were almost no limitations on WHERE you could build.

I’m not creative enough to come up with a workable answer to how housing should function. But it’s not an easy thing to incorporate.

Yay for WoW HOAs…

Really interested in how the public neighborhood system will work! I love the idea of a town essentially being made of player built venues. If it’s 50 per though, I suppose they’d have to some creative sharding for the various groups of 50 players at a time.

Curious if they’ll allow for multiple stories for a single house! And basements??

I’m excited for this part, miniature governments with control over what/how you can enjoy your property? This is my literal definition of fun.

I am just hoping I can have different houses for each alt. My belves and trolls have very different tastes in decor, so them being stuck in the same house would not be ideal. I hope we get additional zone options before too long. I am reserving full judgement on that for when we fully see what the zones are like.
