Buff Warlocks

I disagree with this entirely, as a DoT spec is meant to juggle timers. Consistently juggling timers on multiple targets is literally what you’re signing up for as a DoT spec. That would be the same as telling a juggler at a party to not juggle things. It just doesn’t make sense.

No, it does not, actually, as you have 36 specs in this game. 6 healers, 6 tanks, 24 DPS specs. Surely you can have all 24 being different in ways and stuff, and surely you can have all DoT specs juggling timers, be it on a ST fight or multi target fight, all doing consistent/sustained damage that ramps while the burst specs do things like burst priority targets down.

In a fight with 20 players, surely you’ll have 2 tanks, 3-5 healers which leaves anywhere from 13-15 dps spots. Surely you’ll want at least 1 DoT spec profile for sustained damage and spread cleave, while the other spots can be filled with burst specs.

If you design every spec around burst it’s literally a boring game. DoT specs can have some burst, but realistically speaking you can still end up having burst fine if that’s exactly what you want, but you play a DoT spec to juggle timers consistently. That’s quite what you sign up for, as much as a healer signs up to heal and a DPS signs up to do damage.

They’ve been sought after yes, but everyone’s chasing their epeen half of the time for non world 200 guilds. Most of the players playing those are chasing “I want to be the #1 damage person on those meters” – this mindset above all or “I’m gonna kill the boss AND be #1 on those charts” – flavor of the month people not afraid to reroll or do whatever it takes to beat everyone else.

They blow only if your end goal is being number 1 on the meters, yeah.

Blizzard used to design fights around multiple fight types once upon a time. They didn’t release a raid with like 90-100% of it ST or ST with adds, they had multiple fight types like AoE, 2T, spread cleave, stacked cleave, etc.

Also, the idea of CDs blows because you’re only viable for those 30 seconds while waiting 2.5 minutes. So in a 10 minute fight, you get 3 uses so bout 1.5 minutes of being good, tops, and then 8.5 minutes of being bad. That’s quite terrible design choice.

So is your idea of burst for 30 seconds then waiting.

Again, DoT specs are damage over time, not burst. It’s quite literally in the name, over time here. Burst is not designed around over time and shouldn’t be. It’s sought after, but again for 2.5 minutes you’re doing less damage than the tank so you’re feeling bad about that until you get your moment again.
