We played and quested in very different Classic’s then.
I still think the MMORPG is missing now as it was in the past.
That’s why I miss. Classic shouldn’t NEED to exist.
Classic should still be in Modern WoW.

MMORPG?

If it wasn’t cata it would have been somewhere in time,I remember at work the had in advertised on cable and was understanding that this would changed what I played for years and was glared by it and sadden. I accepted it but didn’t want it gone.
This was when i was young and now years later I realized it would change again like the real world has done. Can the MMOrpg live again ,I would say Yes,because peoples hearts are still in it.
Yes it is a MMORPG.
I could play for days at times with Classic.
And I did!
The quests, the zones, the NPC’s, if you knew what to look for and just WATCH, the mobs all pathed to a little degree, however each one that DID was either on Patrol, or actually doing something useful!
That’s the difference. Attention to detail is also out the window now.
Not as it once was.
Well, of course not. It has improved since then.
It has also stagnated.
The life within the game, if you ever just find a spot and sit to watch a new zone…
It doesn’t “feel” lived in. Is that hard to get done? Yes. About the only area close due to the phasing is in Ardenweald near the forest sprites. At least THOSE look lively. Outside of that one group of NPC’s, the rest in the SL Expansion thus far do not look to actually do or have any life in them.
Trust me any npc that attack even close is reactive but there is a sense somehow I just can’t describe it that there is a disconnect some how.
It’s everyday on every Mythic+ runs.
I assume the role of Hunter. I provide Binding Shot, tar traps allowing Tanks to kite mobs. I also have Tranq shot to negate Enrage effects of mobs.
My group needs A Death Knight or a Druid to cover battle rez for people dying during fights.
My group needs Mage, Shaman or my Hunter Pet to get Buff from Blood Lusts.
The melee classes usually take care most of the interrupts on caster mobs although my hunter could provide it too. They also stun mobs.
Each of the party member of our group on these dungeons have respective roles. That’s RPG- everyday - every run as we need combination of roles to cover the whole dungeon run.
If you want Massive Multiplayer, you can make a group on Dungeon Finder like to kill a World Boss. And those players hop in to your layer. Get the kill then leave the group to go back to their own respective layer where they could farm/grind stuff on their own.
Retail WoW is still the same as Old WoW. It’s just it’s way more convenient.

Nerf printing press. Bring back transcription by hand! Back when people paid attention to the detail, and imbued their soul into their works. The printing press is just so impersonal. All mechanical. Lacking the craftsmanship of a good handwritten book.
Blizz plz.
So, you don’t have any facts that actually disqualify WoW as an MMORPG, you have an opinion on the way the game “feels” different to you.
Many things have changed since WoW was first released, you included.
You are acting like you are having a mid-life crisis and trying to relive your youth by returning to an amusement park, yet you aren’t finding the roller coaster nearly as thrilling now and the merry-go-round has been replaced with bumper cars.
The Stewards in Bastion, path and are doing something and have dialog. Plus you get a WQ where you have to interact with them to get it done.
Ardenweald npc’s seem to be walking around or running around doing tasks.
Every zone I’ve been in still has patrol mobs doing their job, pathing where you need to watch out or they’ll aggro on you.
what is mmo? all i know is dungeons and raids. other content is trash! TRASHHH!

Play Classic.
The game traded inconvenience that fostered community for accessibility that favors gameplay. Given that this is a video game first and foremost, I don’t see that as a bad thing. It’s still an MMO and an RPG, just apparently not in the way that you want it to be.
So go play Classic.
Peak WoW had zero systems and zero borrowed power (and no, I don’t view set bonuses as “borrowed power”)
13 million players.
It was Wrath of the Lich King.
Questing was vast, professions were useful. Valor (or it’s equivalent back then) got in you in the door for raids. The 5 mans were fantastic, the ICC 5 mans were chef’s kiss. (well okay, Halls of Reflection was a PITA.)
You had rep grinds with awesome rewards, and other than raid lock outs and daily quests, almost no timegating.
Yet Blizzard is fixated on these systems and borrowed power and all this crap, but like . . . Wrath . . . just . . . do that again lol. Like come on, model an expansion off Wrath and you’ll hit gold, I promise you Ion and Bobby.
Classic has too much inconvenience.
If they do Wrath classic though, that might be the happy medium for me.
So you are telling people if you don’t like being the top player go to classic and not play retail even though they payed to play this retail version as well as you did.
The MMORPG will come back, but I don’t think Actiblizzard is going to be the one to do it.
Case in point:
WoW forums: Game is trash, Devs out of touch, Why are you ruining M+?, Conduit energy WTF? If you hate it you should quit!
FF14 forums: WE GOT BUNNY BOYS! They listened! Thanks Yoshi-P!
I mean… seriously for a moment.
Blizzard simply can’t/wont listen about even the smallest things and is usually so busy shooting themselves in the foot with poor design and unwanted systems they haven’t the time left to fix the mistakes they didn’t create on purpose.
I haven’t ever felt my time so disrespected by a developer.
