It is more iconic for Ret than some randomly appearing-then-disappearing sword from the ground (if anything, shouldn’t it come from the sky/‘heavens’ as the old judgement animation used to?).
Plus, exorcism looks cooler in my opinion. As well, I’d trade in the judgement range for exorcism which had range like it did in wod.
It used to be reset by art of war, just like blade of justice is now, in case anyone does not remember.
If not by glyph or talent, can we just have it back by default?
Replace BoJ with Exorcism. The holy damage is more synergy with talents, the range helps with our limited mobility, the name and spell effect bring back class identity they claim they are seeking to restore.
BoJ can be a glyph for the weird people who like summoning runed swords from the ground like some sort of DK.
I saw a post from a new player who thinks Paladins are “summoners” or “conjurers”. I thought it was bizarre until I realised they were right; BoJ involves summoning a sword, judgement is a summoned hammer that is thrown… (rather than the awesome old animation from the heavens). What has blizzard done to the Paladin identity?
How is that even remotely something a DeathKnight would do, its not.
I’d rather have an awesome animation, than Zero animation.
It suffers from the same problems Divine Steed does. Its easily counted by a single snare. Also its not likely Blizzard will reduce the CD on Judgement either.
Divine Steed does have one advantage, it doesn’t require a target to be within 30yards and in line of sight to use.
You’re better off asking for Divine Steed to be a 6 second CD, 3 second duration at 45% run speed.
I’d preferably have Pursuit of Justice and Divine Steed. I Think Blizzard should also make Crusader Aura give a run speed increase along with its mounted speed increase.
The problem with ret mobility (in pvp) when compared with other classes, is that it just falls behind on soo many levels.
We have LONG cd’s on our ONE mobility move, which doesn’t have a long duration at all. Most classes with a sprint type ability have at leas 7-8 seconds, on a one minute CD, maybe 2 minute. Ret gets 3 second “sprint” on a 45 second CD? Are you serious?
Most class “sprints” can be modified through a talent of some sort, making them immune to slows or removing slows on use of said sprint ability. This is ONE of rets mobility issues. Yes we have freedom, but like people said, in PvE or PvP you may not have 2-3 globals to initiate a freedom and a sprint. In M+ (high keys) you’ll be dead in those globals, and in pvp you may have missed an important interrupt, or CC in that time frame.
I agree with this statement.
I don’t want us to be another class, I want us to have our own unique mobility (that doesn’t require Holy Power to use). But take a Warrior.
Charge: even if you’re slowed, you will reach your target. Effective, more so than our steed.
Heroic Leap: Perfect example in my eyes of a gap closer. You can be interrupted or “CC’d” mid leap, which allows for counter play, but if not interrupted you can cover a LARGE distance in a short time, with a slow on you or not. Ret needs something that will help it do this.
If no talents are added or changed for Ret mobility, Steed NEEDS a lower CD for a 3 second sprint that has Zero mobility immunity. Honestly it should be a 30 second CD at most for 3 whole seconds.
Agreed.
Easiest fix is simply a glyph on Blade of Justice.
Slightly harder fix could be a talent. Perhaps a talent that replaces Blade of Justice with new ability (exorcism) that does less Holy Damage than BoJ but still generates 2 HP and has a shorter cooldown.
It’d be like the Legion 7.0 version of Blade of Wrath instead of the current version in our talent row, AND would get us back Exorcism.
Ah yes exorcism, I remember learning how to pronounce it because I was pretty young when I started playing this game and I remember the distinct sound effect it had. And with this we would have RANGE again
While this is technically true, with a haste build or a regular build with haste procs, judgment can have anywhere near an 8 second cooldown. LaotL lasted 3 seconds per judgement.
In PvP, that would still be insanely good. Like, I mean amazing. You’d essentially get 5 Judgments for each Divine Steed, and in PvP, it’s pretty much going to have a 100% uptime unless you’re out of combat, in which case you can just mount. 15 seconds of a 50% speed boost vs 3 seconds of a 100% that people can easily negate, and you’re screwed until it’s back up.
In nonsensical world content or PvE (excluding mythics tbh)? Yeah I guess it won’t have 100% uptime, but in that case, you could just take something else.
I know that Long Arm of the Law even with Judgement’s Longer CD would still have a higher up time over Divine Steed. But its still going to be shutdown by snares during the speed boost it gives. Rendering it ineffective, especially due to Ret no longer having an Emancipate. But Long Arm also adds other issues, such as it not being capable of being used as a gap opener/escape mechanic. Also if the opponent does get out of range of Judgement, you can’t always simply just mount up, and if you can, so can they.
This is why I’ve always prefered Pursuit of Justice. The duration of it speed increase lasted as long as you wanted, and was only marginally lower than Long Arm of the Law. Making it not so easily counted by snares, especially with Emancipate.
Anyway this is kinda derailing this thread
I’ve suggested this before and It could be a replacement for Fires of Justice or additional added benefit to the talent.
Not that I would EVER suggest this, but, say you accidentally have a friend’s friend’s cousin’s cousin borrow your computer and they install a “prior” server on it that ran, say, wrath of the lich king. if you were to ACCIDENTALLY log into that, and play ret pally, you’d notice the amazing sound effects that ret had when attacking and the awesome glowing-hands effect that was the stacking vengeance buff.
I’d been hoping for Exorcism to return in a completely different way.
See…I miss Denounce. I miss having a ranged damage ability with no cooldown. (I missing having a damage ability with no cooldown, period, for that matter.) And back during Cataclysm, Exorcism was our ranged-spell-with-no-cooldown. Add to that the fact that Exorcism has a lot of class flavor, and the fact that we’re going into an undead-heavy expansion, and how awesome the Denounce projectile would look when combined with the spellbook casting animation, I’d been hoping Blizzard would make Exorcism come back as a timed-cast ranged damage spell with no cooldown.
My ideal Exorcism would fill a niche similar to Poisoned Knife, Crackling Jade Lightning, or Death’s Caress—a ranged opener, a tool for tagging opponents, a tool for doing damage while at range—that kind of thing. But…that’s not really what you guys are talking about, here.
If they did my version of Exorcism and kept BoJ as-is, how would you feel about it?
First off, are you the real DBRHP Longwriter? o: if so, wow, hi, I’ve watched you since way back
Second, that could work, but, for ret, probably not. Maybe they could re-implement the WotLK Art of War talent where Exorcism had a cast time by default, but, if you crit, it would be an insta-cast (either that or you get an insta heal - one or the other). That could work. I know you play holy so idk if that would work there. But I miss the sound, the spell, the range, the flavor, the holy damage, the animation - everything.
Instead we have the non-attack of pointing our weapon at the sky while we summon a sword from the earth that instantly turns into nothing. wut
Unpopular opinion I think, but I absolutely don’t like how much “summons” they gave Paladins. I mean, Paladins had some weird summons since Classic but even then Hammer of Wrath was more like a “spiritual hammer” than an actual flying Hammer.
But like, now we got Judgement flying Hammer, Avenger’s Shield, Light’s Hammer, Blessed Hammer and Blade of Wrath. Like, what? It even make metal sounds as if it is something physical, I mean, come on, I am a Paladin, not a weapon summoner.
OBS: How could I have forgotten… We also get to summon a Horse out of thin air, for three seconds, but I guess we summoned a Horse ever since Vanilla anyways.
