Hi! If anyone is more knowledgeable please comment but looking online it appears bosses have potentially three tiers of armor value: Warrior ~3700 Armor, Paladin ~3000 Armor, Mages below 3000 Armor; Plus or minus of course. I know Magmadar (which seems to be a higher physical dps numbers fight) has 3.2k armor via beast info skill. My main question feels obvious at first glance but some people believe boss armor values can go into the negatives for increased damage (with specific gear). I was just wondering if this is truly a thing / if anyone knows much about boss armor values in general. Thanks!!
Until we get armor penetration it’s hard to figure out.
Why would you class a paladin as less armor then a warrior when in practice we have more?
I just copied and pasted from a discussion template, probably just labeled that for simplicity reference sake.
So far, all the bosses have roughly the same Armor. Easiest way to check is using any logs with a Bear smacking the boss and using Swipe. Swipe doesn’t scale with anything stat-wise so it really only matters insomuch as Curse of Recklessness, Sunder Armor, and Faerie Fire are concerned. There’s also Druid talents but anyone in Bear hitting Swipe likely has both and it is easy enough to check.
It is somewhere around 3740 Armor but I haven’t pinned it down perfectly. The game doesn’t use decimals so if Swipe is supposed to hit for 78.6 Damage, it will hit for 78 damage 40% of the time, and 79 damage 60% of the time. I haven’t checked any BWL bosses yet.
EDIT: Also I’m 95% sure you can’t push Armor into the negatives. With CoR, Sunder x5, and Faerie Fire, bosses only have around 300ish Armor remaining. Items like https://classic.wowhead.com/item=12798/annihilator
could potentially pushed it beneath zero… but I’m pretty certain it just zeros it out so physical DPS does true damage.
Thanks for the reply! If you test swipe in bwl and find any new data please let me know
