I want to register my extreme frustration about how the M+ boosting problem has completely ruined all the progress I made to earn a spot in the top 1% for Midnight Season 1. I worked hard and managed to get resil-20, which was in the top 1% for months. However, even though progress on the top 1% threshold has plateaued in NA, it has started climbing up again FASTER in the past few weeks (despite less people playing M+, and of vastly inferior quality compared to April and May). This surge of boosted players has now kicked me out of the 1%, unless I am able to time multiple +21 keys.
The entire point of the 1% title has now been invalidated and soured for me; what I thought was an achievable goal to entice me to play more has been robbed from me by people paying real world money to have others play on their accounts.
Unless Blizzard takes DRASTIC actions to crack down on the boosters so they don’t get their ill-gotten red-Belo’ren, I’m completely disincentivized to ever push like this again. That or fudge how they calculate the 1% so it includes people who got screwed over by the boosters (e.g. if you were in 1% for at least a month?)
what’s wrong with juust doing a “once you get to THIS score, you get THIS reward” --I never liked “leaderboards” in most games BECAUSE people always find ways to cheat.
i didn’t bother pushing until the last couple weeks for 1% since its a moving target. Im sure a lot of people did the same. Just because people passed you doesn’t mean they needed to cheat to do it.

Never not once have I sold runs. I pugged my way into resi-20 fair and square, the HARD way, including algethar/seat 20. Part of my problem is I can’t even get INTO a 21 pug

All she ever does in this forum is insult anyone and everyone, i’ve looked at her post history and its nothing but constant arguing for either side of the same issue - no matter what it is. There is no actual person there, just someone who lives to argue because my guess is its the only joy she gets out of life.
The cheating has deprived me of the reward that I earned from competence, so yeah the cheating concerns me. I either want the cheaters all punished to reduce the problem so that in a future season I can earn it fare and square, or at least to be rewarded for what I achieved before the cheating took it away. I only bring up this latter option because it’s more feasible lol.
I pugged my way through a damn Algethar 20. I feel like I freaking earned it, and now it is being taken away bc of boosted scum. I refuse to believe that after months of plataeuing progress, the IO cutoff has NATURALLY shot up by 100 points in the past few weeks despite fewer people doing M+, and my own analogy experience of people in the 18-20 range deteriorating in quality in the tail end of the season.
I mean “cheating” is when someone breaks the rules to a game, people who are getting boosted(if they pay gold) are not breaking the rules as it is now.
Even if i agree that boosting shouldn’t be allowed, it isn’t the primary reason the rating has shot upwards like it has. People want the achievement and the mount and they are pushing really hard to do so. The omnium folio made the 20 AA barrier effectively move up a level, and just in general people are clamoring to get 20’s and 21’s done, ive personally assisted 5-6 people either stay above the threshold or break into it and all the pugs in those groups besides, so probably 18-20 people, these people are actively seeking others out for assistance, why? They have a hunger for it that you apparently dont.
You say you “earned” this achievement, except the season aint over, no one has “earned” it including me. Regardless if you don’t end up “earning it” when that is ACTUALLY determined, it won’t be because of boosted players, it will either be a lack of skill or willingness on your part.
why hell would you think that the 1% should or would stop at 3892? Did you honestly think you were safe? Or is it that you literally cant progress any further? Because in that case how can you claim you earned anything? When you can’t do the bare minimum of knocking out the easy 21’s(easier than 20aa and seat btw)
Edit: also recent data points disseminated by forum goers and content creators suggest the point impact of boosting is 4-8 points total for title and 10-15 for 1%, so even if all boosted scores got nuked from the board you STILL would have missed cutoff.
Max player power wasn’t achievable until 5 weeks after 12.0.7 was released and the Omnium Folio could be fully upgraded. Pushing before that was a waste of time if your goal was for title.
a lot of people are mad right now, and thats valid. but lets get some things straight here.
while boosting does ruin m+, it is accepted by blizzard. so technically, boosting isnt inherently wrong.
RMT is bannable, yes. but blizzard doesnt seem to really care much about looking into that when it comes to m+. which sucks.
not that this is relevant, but just cuz you brought it up, if you think people are buying piloted runs for 1%, you are wrong. MAYBE a handful of people, but generally speaking, no. .1% title, while there is a lot more piloting happening there, its still nowhere near as common as u think. realistically, people are just buying the resi key completion and then just spam running it until it gets done.
and while it absolutely sucks, this is just how it is, since blizzard doesnt want to do anything about it.
my friend has been WELL above .1% title since day 1 of the season. i watched them play a 23 AA for 14 hours straight last night, all the way until servers went down, just to try to beat the last minute boosting inflation. – they missed .1% title by 0.5 points.
it doesn’t happen often enough or when it actually matters is the issue, thats what the OP is saying.
Again, this is why I think the title range should just be a specific number, not some arbitrary value in a prolonged season with 900 boosts to player power that weren’t balanced for the season to begin with
Omnium Folio R5 came out weeks before IO start shooting up. You can see it plataeu-ing a week after R5 came out. Then it shot up at a meteoric rate in the last few weeks bc thats when most of the title boosting happens.
As for cutoff, I think the 1% should stop at the score that people naturally got there, which would have been low-3800s. Take all the boosted scum out of the equation, and I don’t think you’re even getting 1% of players doing an alg or seat 20.
I mean for crying out loud: IT ENDED AT 3960!!! That’s INSANE. That is all 20s, and 3-5 21s!!! No freaking way that THAT MANY PEOPLE organically got their IO over that number in the last 2 weeks when many didn’t even have half-20s before then.
Oh I had the damn hunger. I just couldn’t get into a single +21 pug the entire season, despite having resi 20 and a max-gear unholy dk. And my +21 runs on my own key (all 1-try-only) all were either near-misses or pug disasters, and each attempt would be spaced apart by days bc I had no resi, and getting another +21 key that was one of the easier dungeons was an ordeal (at this point in season, even pugging my own 20s again was a damn nightmare bc most of the people left pugging 20s were awful).
I was running M+ the entire time, the entire season. At some point I hit a wall in what I could do with pugs w/o people inviting me to good groups. People who boosted did not run into that wall, so they overtook me at the very end of the season. My parses were decent enough. My spec was great. My gear was great. The number of keys I had run was off the damn charts. I had all the enchants, gems, conusmables. I even completed some 21s on my own keys that were a hair over time bc some of the pugs died a few times and their death timers sent us over. But with all of that, I couldn’t compete with ****ing boosters.
